  1. I don't know how many of you turn pens. I just received a catalog from Rockler and on page 15 they are selling for $1.99. I don't see any bulk prices or reduced set prices for multiple. I don't know if this is allowed on the site, just trying to save turners some money. They are Slimeline pens which looks much like those starter kits from Penn State Industries. I have no vested interest in either of these companies, just trying to save some pennies for my friends.l
  2. A good friend of mine has been wintering in AZ from Canada for around 15 years. He has a large, very well equipped shop near Victoria BC but, space was at a premium in the retirement community in AZ. So, he discovered the Shopsmith. What he has done to make his small shop in AZ into a fully functioning woodworking enterprise is nothing short of amazing. He now has some health issues that has necessitated that he close his AZ shop in order to stay in Canada, close to his National health care medical facilities. He is offering his AZ shop equipment for sale (this post is not a sales pitch) and has posted a blog on Lumberjocks that explains exactly how he transformed a small carport into a great work area using the Shopsmith as his main tool. It's well worth a look. I'll post the blog address but, because Lumberjocks is kinda jealous of their content, a link won't work. It'll have to be a C&P job. But, it truly is worth your time. Enjoy. http://lumberjocks.com/shipwright/blog/27373

  17. This keeps up...I won't have any room for a new plane.....a Moving Sale, in December? Motored down to take a look this morning....turned down the hacksaws, picks and shovels....but did buy two hand saws.. One MIGHT turn out decently...the other? Only two holes even matched up.... Despite an owners best attempts....there was also too much of this mess... Bad teeth, too......too much work, and I did NOT have a handle that matched this plate.....parts saw... Now, the other saw? Needed a couple tools. The punch is to knock the bolts out of the handle, once the nuts were removed.... Cleaned the bolts up with the wire wheel... Then stashed them aside....so they wouldn't roll away....Set the handle aside, too.. I'll get back to it in a bit,,....Plate needed a bit of sander work.. Dog holes make a great place to stash a screwdriver,BTW. I started with 80 grit, and got to 220 for the final go around.. Looks a little better? Got both sides all nice and spiffy...time to clean a handle.. Got most of the old finish removed, and a few bad spots cleaned up....gave this a wipe down, then another with a bit of amber shellac. wound up with about...three coats, may get a few more....assembled the saw...clocked the slots on the screws.. And the "Show side" Almost looks like a saw? That Disston site says this is a D-112, about 1928 era. 7 ppi, 26" skew back crosscut saw. Set up a test cut.... Cuts fast, no binding, no wandering off. Might just be a keeper. ( Disston quit making these after 1929...) $18 for the pair of saws.....might still have come out ahead? I'll see about a rattle can of clear lacquer later....as Disston used that, instead of varnish. Was a high priced ( $4.50 !!!) saw when first sold, this is the skew back version of the D-12. Not too bad of a day?
  18. We have a couple of retailers selling our products that have them on sale right now. If it's ok... I thought I would pass on this information to you. http://www.taytools.com and http://www.craftsuppliesusa.com
  19. (Click on image for link) I saw these at the Woodcraft store the last time I was there. They looked well made and ideal for marking in those hard to reach places. $19.99 + 10 pack refill
  20. Rockler has the Bessy K body Revo Jr's on sale this month. $179.99 for two each of the 18", 24", and 36" clamps. Are these clamps good clamps to purchase or are they to small and flexible? Is this a great price? Danl
  21. On a road trip....stopped at one sale.....Bought a handsaw for a buck-fifty.. Weird handle, ugly paint job....Left handed saw? As this is the "back"....? My son picked up a Fox Fire riding coat..$80 coat for $10.. Got this "Treasure" home, took the handle off, and cleaned the brass.. Fancy medallion? THREE sets of holes? Phoenix, Patented, Trade ( bird) Mark, Warranted. Hardware matched the holes in the handle Left handed saw? Took the plate to the shop....paint stripper was a wire wheel and a belt sander... Had the remove a bow to the plate, and a kink or two.....plate is now straight, just needs the 8ppi teeth sharpened. Put the saw back together, and then outside to "sun" itself... Non-medallion side ( left handed saw ?) Medallion side. 26" 8 point, crosscut saw. Medallion is by Atkins. Plate is known as a skew back. Three finger grip, with the index finger along the side as a pointer. VERY comfy handle. $1.50? Looks better than when it was all painted up....

Objective

Air Force Command Center Plaque

Of course just like most online woodworking communities we are centralized in the arts, crafts, and trades that are woodworking. But, we have another focus in our Patriot Woodworker community, we are the only woodworking community that was founded on our care and concern for our disabled veterans.

Volunteer

Patriot Woodworker Volunteers

The Patriot Woodworkers are an all volunteer community, from the staff and hosts who run our online woodworking community to the members who frequent our forums, you'll find volunteers in all of us. We are not on a payroll, unless you consider the spiritual rewards gained from volunteering, as compensation.

Education

Logging

One of the many projects we are working on is a wiki for our online community. A wiki is a great way for woodworkers and enthusiasts to share their knowledge to others, and to impart their knowledge for others to learn from, and utilize as well for their own benefit. We hope you'll consider being a wiki contributor.
