Our Patriot Turners-

Please welcome back a forum member who checked in this week. Great to have @AndrewB posting again and getting all of us caught up with what he has been doing!

@John Morris posted about a turning artisan he follows, Jarrod Dahl. Mr. Dahl's video created a question that got lots of responses from our group. Jump over to John's post and see if you can add more to the conversation-

And from "Off"-

Gerald showed us his finished sculpted lidded vessel. Talk about a beautiful work of art!! I can't imagine how much sandpaper he must have gone through!!

For The Newbies-

When it comes to bowl turning, the grinds on a bowl gouge can be confusing. Which one is best? Which one should I use and where? Sam Angelo has some information that may help you answer these questions-

Turning a bowl,  box or any hollow type form requires the turner to know just how deep into the wood they can go before making the inside larger than the outside. Richard Raffan shows us how to make a simple tool to help with judging the depth.

When hollowing out turnings with straight sides (i.g. boxes), the box scraper can help to make more precise cuts. Mike Peace takes a look at some of the advantages and disadvantages of some of the tools-

Safe turning

Sam's video was interesting, but kinda over my head. If I had a duplicate of one of my bowl gouges i might try that, but it will have to wait until i get more chisels. Do any of you use those collet type handles like the one he had?

It looks like a Robust handle.

Thanks for the mention Lew. Have to see what Mike says about scrapers.

Thanks Lew.  Another round of videos to watch is always a good deal.

I don’t Fred. Hope someone here has experience with them.
