October 11, 20232 yr Popular Post Beer credits sounds like a great payment scheme so long as you can use them all. Your beer crates might end up exceeding the exchange value though. That or kidney failure might stop the need for more beer. I get gas credits from my local grocery store that has gas pumps next door. Worthless to me as I drive an electric car. I've been trying to exchange them for chicken or chocolate or cheese or cookies or crackers or anything with calories, but they haven't coalesced on that concept yet.
October 11, 20232 yr Popular Post A good chunk of it paid for next year's Beer CSA. Some of it will be aged in my cellar for a couple of years. I already have a case that's been down there for 2 years And some of it will be loaded into beer cases and given as Xmas gifts

October 12, 20232 yr Popular Post So my MIL went to a retirement community a few months ago. We are cleaning out some of her stuff. Her husband passed away first but she still had what was left of his tools.....very very little but hey there is some old hand tools in the pile. I'll gladly find a place for them in my shop. Everything from the stretched out tape and limb trimmer in plastic forward was the total haul. The guy had a stucco business in Florida for years and had done well....I never got to meet him but he was supposedly a top notch fella. A few of the pieces still have his name and initials on them. I'll be honest, I've never been given another man's tools before....and it feels kinda weird ...but I'll givem a good home. Also this little box got my attention. I'll clean it up and give it to my girl or if she doesn't want it I thought some scrimshaw tools or something would look good in it. It's got some age to it...but I like the inlay and overall design of it. Edited October 12, 20232 yr by aaronc
October 12, 20232 yr Popular Post Great story, rescue and save @aaronc. The box is awesome especially with the inlay. Should clean up nicely with a few spritz of hydrogen-peroxide, wiped clean then a light coat of wax. The tools tell a story. Happy you were able to get these.
October 28, 20232 yr Popular Post Drilled a few holes & oiled up the scroll saw to start cutting some gifts. I'll run a separate thread.
October 29, 20232 yr Popular Post projects under way, my knotty alder screen door to match the entry i built some time ago, as i mentioned to the ole gal, if i finished all the projects in the and around the house, she might not need me any more, so i'm doleing out the finish work. progress pics of screen door build, still working on finish, urethane and i struggle and the struggle is real, lol and then the library cabinets, i've built dozens of these and given them to folks who want to install them, they are quite large, but fill a need in most hoods, about 26'' wide x 48'' tall, sheet metal roofing, the one in front of our house is used so much i have a garage full of books folks drop off, have had a few folks hit us up at a garage sale wanting plans, and i just tell'm don't have plans, but cna build a few, if'n you wanna paint them and install. them hence these three for now, a few more in the spring as soon as my pard brings me some more siding and misc. lumber. happy hollow weenie to those who partake Rj in az i built the doors today, using the kreg system boy howdy where was it a few decades ago, i'd had more fun building doors and face frames, ill post some pics in next couple days, now off to buy some red paint, Rj Edited October 29, 20232 yr by knockonit
October 30, 20232 yr Popular Post Very Nice. Our Director of the Library has asked me to build her a free library. I'm stealing a couple of ideas from yours.
October 30, 20232 yr Popular Post First few i made the shelves for the kids books too short, forgot they build big;n books for youngsters, so after that fiasco, i made them almost 12 inche at the kids, `11 at the next one , then around 10 for the top which is typically paperbacks. the one in front of house has a absolute turnover in books in a couple weeks, i still hit up garage sale and thrift joints and buy boxes of books, i generally donate the cabinet with abaout 80% of shelves with books, happy sunday, one more coat on the ext. of the screen door and i can start on the screen side. Rj in az
October 30, 20232 yr Popular Post For our local craft show in 2 weeks, I dusted off and rebuilt a couple of my old lights. This old Juicer has been Blue for a few years. I'm trying it in Black this year with a chrome shade I found in a second-hand store. This flute lamp needed a new shade, the smaller mate to the one above. And then there's my whiskey barrel stave tree that needed a stronger base made from an old lamp

November 2, 20232 yr Popular Post Visiting cousin Nancy in North Olmsted last week, I rescued a discarded door from her dormer crawlspace. C.1928, very heavy, oak I think. It's headed to the dissection table. Nothing will be wasted. Bet those two panels are amazing plywood, the rails and stiles are solid, and the lower panel solid lumber. The DW735X arrives today and the DWE7485 has been active for 20 days and 20 mights. Beautiful fence control. Resawed HP at full height two evenings ago. Cuts like butter. When it's time for a new blade, I'll likely stick with the same. Ran a new dedicated 20amp receptacle, but am planning on moving that to the chop saw. Have the material to run a duplex 20amp to saw & plane. Priced 12-3 today Have plenty of 12-2, so the new box is getting two wires, to two new breakers.
