July 8, 20232 yr Popular Post As of this afternoon , a before and after occurred on my bench..the Before? The After... The "Before"? And the After...( one hour of shoptime) Had to tear this down, clean and sharpen it...and refinish the handles..on a $1 garage sale find, that has been sitting around way too long.. Should be about ready to go to work... Cutting edges were re-ground..and then Uni-corned SHARP...Bare metal was given a wipe down with 3in1 oil....decided against re-doing the orange paint...

August 20, 20232 yr Popular Post These aren't on my bench now, as they have been sent to the recipients, but they were on the bench just a few days ago. Does that count? The clock went to my SIL's husband. I refer to him as my BILIL. I may have posted this info previously, if so forgive me. He plays in a band in the Denver/Lakewood area, so I thought he might like the clock encased in a musical note. The measuring cups and measuring spoons went to his wife. She is/was my wife's youngest sister. @lew, feel free to transfer them to the turner's forum if you want, as the handles were turned. The clock picture is horrible. I think I was a little shaky taking the picture. Too much coffee maybe. The clock insert is called a skeleton clock because you can see the operation of the movement as the clock is running. The top of the note actually has two tails, but they kind of blurred together. That was interesting working the bandsaw blade in between the tails to cut out the space between them. I might take a separate picture of the note top to show what I am talking about.
August 20, 20232 yr Another site was yakking about BIG chisels...so..here is mine.. 1" Gouge, 3/4" Beveled Chisel, and the 1" Square chisel.. Two handles have rings.. Gouge is a (I think) out channel? And measures 1" across.. That square chisel has been used a few times.. To square up a few corners...

August 23, 20232 yr This may be the first cutting board I've seen using red oak. As porous as red oak is, is this a good wood for a cutting board?

Not really as the open pores will retain food and bacteria. But then there is the research that showed wood kills bacteria.
August 23, 20232 yr Besides, all those "open pores" are in the end grain of the boards....Face grain will not have any...
August 23, 20232 yr Popular Post Not much on the bench, today.. Pending arrival of any more Lumber Supplies....
