So educate the ignorant here (that would be me),...you appear to be taking off some thickness from the edge of the board. Looks like something I would do with a router (because I'm a cheater)...my question is..is that what you call a molding plane of some type?
November 16, 20232 yr Popular Post I am happy to say that at this moment the is NOTHING on my workbench and I plan to keep it that way until after Thanksgiving
November 16, 20232 yr Popular Post Rebate plane....that can also be set up as a Bullnose plane... On a 3/4 overlay drawer front..there is 3 rebates...one on each end and on along the top edge...Bottom edge only gets a groove for the drawer's bottom panel. Some dummy went back to the shop a few minutes ago....and completed the rebates and grooves on 4 and #5 drawer fronts....and set up the router table to plough dovetail "sockets" tomorrow...that should be "FUN" to do...
November 22, 20232 yr Popular Post Been a bit busy, today.... There IS a bench under there...somewhere...
November 22, 20232 yr Popular Post Had to re-arrange my garage shop to make a little more room for the nose of the pickup truck I just bought. What I need to do now is find the top of my bench areas to actually make use of them. Pickup truck will lead to trips to the nearby hardwood supplier/lumber yard, which will lead to projects that need glue-up/layout/assembly area which I don't have clear right now. The best solution would be to move out the vehicles so I could use the space they take up, but I'm very spoiled having them snug and protected in my garage. Never thought I could possibly fill up the shop area of the garage when I bought this house, but 23 years has proven me wrong. 4D

Extended cab but no jump seats. 2019 with 44k miles on it. 6'4" bed. Already ordered a tonneau cover for it. Looking for someplace that can spray in a bed liner.

With the 6'4" bed, you should be able to haul 12' or longer material no problem. Works great when you need it. Takes little space to store even in the bed. Takes little space to store even in the bed. I'll need a trailer hitch first. Motorcycle ramp comes next. I have a crude one I made to work with my previous 1980 Nissan hardbody truck. Had that truck for 16 years. I will want to be able to tow a trailer eventually so a hitch is also on the list.
November 24, 20232 yr Popular Post Got a hitch, ball, owner's manual, and tonneau cover ordered. Looking for a cruise control kit to add on to it. I didn't realize quite how basic this truck was when I ordered it. I've got 3 siblings who now live in eastern states and want to drive the truck from Kansas to make a visit and distribute a few family treasures to the kids/grandkids I don't have. 4D

My benches are littered with tiny wheeled vehicles. Trains planes and cars in various stages of completion. Got 'em all painted and now, installing the wheels. Hope to have them all done by noon. Gotta go partying this afternoon.

Honestly, for what I mainly expect to use this truck for cruise control isn't needed. I mentioned having a pickup now on facebook and my eldest sister brought up the prospect of bringing it and a few things to visit. Can't imagine crossing half the country with no cruise control. My old right foot has forgotten having done just that several times when I was younger. Sunday the hitch and related gear should arrive. That'll be my adventure getting it installed on the truck. My mind is now distracted with the potential uses for that 2" square hitch socket. Credit to the genius who came up with that.

November 24, 20232 yr Popular Post I was thinking more about a motorcycle rack. In college I had a Yamaha moped and drove a Ford Pinto. Made a rack I could carry the moped on. It hooked to the bumper. Shop gear I figured I could carry in a trailer with solar cells on top and charge batteries that could power the tools with. That'll be my shop when I retire from being retired.

I've lived long enough to notice that "Traditional" workbenches, designed by craftsmen who relied on hand tools to ply their trade, have evolved as new tool technology has arrived. I expect that trend to continue, so keep an open mind. Once you have your first bench done it'll point out where its weaknesses are. Keep those in mind as you are planning/designing your "last" bench.

Can't speak to the 2019 model, but the older one's (work truck version) had pretty basic seats that were not very comfortable and zero lumbar support. Ok around town, but not on a trip. If you find that's the case you can look for an upgrade on car-part.com
November 29, 20232 yr Popular Post Thanks Cal. I bought it from a dealer in a neighboring state without a test drive. When it was delivered I spent 20 minutes or so adjusting the seat and mirrors. When I researched the Chevy Bolt before I bought it the seats were also the main complaint. Mine seem fine though. Haven't spent much time driving it, but did take it out to get a feel for how it drove. Four cylinder engine seems a little wimpy relative to the van I traded it for it and of course compared to my Chevy Bolt EV. Just something to get used to. Have notice a "tuner" is available that hooks into the OBD port and gas pedal to make it more responsive and supposedly more fuel thrifty. Need to read more reviews about that one. Tonneau cover arrived yesterday and is installed. Bought a tailgate damper which is also installed. Trailer hitch will be installed tomorrow at the local Chevy dealer as that looks like a 2-man job and the instructions suggest putting it on a lift. 20 years ago I would have tackled that job myself using plyers and a crescent wrench. I have the proper tools now but no desire to crawl under the truck, remove the bumper and spare tire, then reverse those steps after bolting in the hitch bracket. I suspect I'll eventually change out the steel wheels for something nicer. Bought a tire pump and some cargo straps to keep in it. Think that's all the gear I need for now.
November 29, 20232 yr Popular Post I take that back. The dash cam I ordered magically appeared on my porch this morning. Never figured I need one, but a few months back I was a witness to a car crash. The car in front of me was t-boned by a car darting across busy traffic hoping that the path was clear on the opposite lane. It wasn't. I stopped/pulled over to make sure everyone was OK and wait for 911 to arrive. Both parties agreed on who was at fault though, and no one appeared to be seriously hurt. Dash cam video wouldn't be needed then if I'd had it. 4D
