The video below appeared in my watch list a few days ago. I estimate its been 57 years since I last saw it. There is a back story; 8th grade Jr High, all boys were required to take, IIRC, 8 weeks each of woodworking, drafting, metal working/basic mechanics and to be well rounded, 8 weeks of home economics.
The intended goal was to determine required freshman class choices of either one semester of woodworking, then one semester of metal working/ mechanics or two semesters of drafting (home-ec not an option as a freshman boy)
One of the first things we did in our woodworking class was to watch this very video. Later in class, any misuse or damage to shop tools had our teacher exclaiming loudly, "Primitive Pete, Primitive Pete; everyohe gather around this table to see what Primitive Pete has done today." To which a lengthy discussion occurred around what "Primitive Pete" had done, what he should have done and how to prevent it going forward. In addition, a fine was levied on Primitive Pete ranging from a penny up to a dollar (not chump change in 1966-67) depending on the degree of damage. A drill bit was typically a 10 cent fine payable in cash or after school service cleaning the shop.
Anyways, seeing this video rekindled memories from so long ago of a much simpler times. A time when real learning of useful skills was taught in schools by teachers who commanded respect and discipline, but genuinely cared for the well being and life-long learning skills of their students. A time when trades were not only taught and respected, but required learning.
So, have you ever seen this video? Where? When? Likely it was projected from a 16mm reel projector perhaps operated by a upper-class student in the AV Aide classes.
Good times, fun times, great memories...thankful I experienced them.

Yesterday was just a gloomy, miserable kind of March day. Warmed up to 52° before the rains came which was about 9:30A then temperature slowly dropped to 46° at one point. Drizzle, light rain, to heavy at times, we had it all. 8/10" in total. Completely cleared off and sun returned about 7P.
6:48A, EST; A damp cold 39°, RF 33°; North wind gusting to 20+mph with heavy overcast. High around 50°. Hard freeze forecast for tonight. 80's next week with thunderstorms in the daily forecast starting Friday through most of next week.
Flowers don't need more April showers. They need sunshine, no wind and above 70° or so they told me.

Warmed up a total of 34° yesterday from the 30°. Clouds overtook the sun early evening. Wind kicked up too.
6:51A, EST; 48°, Cloudy, but sunrise on the horizon is really red. SSW wind ~20mph. Rain is just North of us right now. We'll have it by late morning. Predicting ~1/2" total. We might make it to 60° but it's going to be very windy.

So very sorry to hear this Dan. Herb was a good man as well as an extremely talented woodworker. Always loved his sense of humor. I am a proud recipient of one of his handmade wood block planes which I will cherish even more. He'll be missed greatly by his woodworking club, community and family. Prayers for the family.
Thanks for letting us know.

That'll be awesome to have another mower and operator on-site. I'll furnish the gas if you don't mind picking up a dozen donuts on the way. Feel free to get some donuts for yourself too.

Eastern red cedar bowl I took from a very old, dead cedar on my place. Three coats of shellac (1# cut) and then Yorkshire grit. 9" x 7" deep. The bottom needs finish still.
Love it Kent. Such rich color and great character.

Hoping to get some good news on the Mrs. Jeep today. Went to pick it up Friday evening and it still had issues after they installed the new alternator and battery. Apparently couldn't get any communication with the PCM; either its fried or perhaps a short elsewhere which may have caused the initial failures.
Once the frost is fully gone today and warms a bit, I'll be mowing, mowing, mowing ahead of the rain tomorrow following by mowing, mowing, mowing Wednesday after the frost clears ahead of the rain forecast for the weekend. Seems to be a weather pattern evolving
Any other activities TBD.
EDIT UPDATE: Shop just called...bad PCM...it'll take 3 business days to get a REMAN Dorman, but it's a plug and play; comes flashed with all files by VIN # and does carry a Lifetime Warranty.

Even with full sunshine all day yesterday it was 5P before we reached out high of 54°. That WNW wind was uncomfortable as as well.
6:57A; A cold March start at 30°, scattered frost, WSW wind ~5mph. Furnace has kicked on last 3 mornings. High of 64° forecast. Rain moving in tonight through tomorrow.

I concur...hard to tell if it's an actual fruit bearing grapevine or "wild" non bearing grapevine. The wild are very invasive, quick growing and hard to kill off since they run so many underground feeder roots. They also climb walls, trees, fences and the like making the spread even worse.

Yesterday was a gloomy day with clouds, cold and wind. Finally made it to 49° but not until 5:30P and not for long.
6:43A, EST; 29°, RF 24°, NE wind 4-8mph. Mostly clear sky. Bright enough to see there's frost out there. High might make it to mid 50's. I hope this is the last of the subfreezing days for a long time.
