Luckily, we have movers for the household stuff. Just not for the shop equipment. We've been packing and selling stuff since March, when we listed our place. I waited till everything was a go for certain before starting on the shop.
August 22, 20205 yr Popular Post That reminds me... I had to make an attachment table top for our spare bed for a sewing table.
August 22, 20205 yr I'm gonna make one maybe two Texas hold em tables. More likely one for myself. Luckily I make patterns for everything but the poker chip forum talked me out of a dealer cutout. I've got 2 sheets of ebony veneer and a lot of walnut and trying to figure my direction on the build...
August 22, 20205 yr Popular Post Mark Lackley built this table. Cost $48,000. Trying to decide if I have it in me, to get that deep in the build. . I'm gonna try and build something unique. See if I can mentally stay I the game.
August 22, 20205 yr A couple of poplar wood pen blanks at the moment inserts are glued in and curing. So hurry up and wait.

It was admittedly a bit of a challenge for my aging hands but I did succeed it in finishing it. I'll post photos when I have the opportunity. Another jewelry box, what else. The jewelry box has several moving parts. When you open the lid, the box opens all the drawers at once The combination of wooden gears, candle wax for lube and elastic bands for spring loading and voi-la. It is working with wood, but not necessarily woodworking.Lots of very small pieces made it tough for all my thumps.
August 23, 20205 yr Popular Post To tell the truth, I Actually assembled it once, only to find it wasn't working as it should. Decided to take it apart and reassemble. I discovered that some of the small movable parts were installed wrong. When I reassembled, I also took the time to insure I waxed the moving parts. There are no written instructions for assembly, just the photos showing the numbered parts as assembled. Didn't really keep track of the time, but I spent 3 evenings in the shop with it, probably 12-14 hrs. The reassembly went much faster than the original, but by that time I had a good idea of what and how to go about it.

Do you shut it manually, or do all the doors and drawers retract as you close the lid?
August 23, 20205 yr It is all geared to open and close with the lid. The two small drawers you see at the top back are spring loaded with tied elastic band in the open position so the lid itself closes those drawers. This was where I had issues with 10 thumbs. Two small pieces attached to a hinge on each drawer. I guess the design was to insure the bands were totally invisible. Edited August 23, 20205 yr by Al B
August 24, 20205 yr Al, you have outdone all of us here, I think. That is absolutely incredible and beyond. I cannot imagine making all those parts, then putting them in place so that they all align perfectly and have it work. Beyond belief! Thanks for showing us talent. And, a beautiful box.

OK, lets back up a bit everyone. I did assemble the box, but beyond that nothing! It is a manufactured puzzle. The parts were all lazer cut. There were no written instructions for assembly, but there were part numbers and photos to help. Parts are made so you can press fit them together but you can glue if desired. I thought my first sentence in this topic made that clear, but apparently not. No way could I have cut all those pieces, some smaller than my pinky fingernail and all those gears. Sorry if I've deceived anyone. Edited August 24, 20205 yr by Al B
August 24, 20205 yr Al, I am sorry that I did not pick up that this box was the puzzle. Yes, when I went back and re-read, I now understand. I thought that they were 2 different subjects. Either way, that is a fascinating box and you did an excellent job.

August 24, 20205 yr Popular Post If I ever do one of these the only instructions I will need is "Call Al B and have him do it."
