The best part of a new project is the beginning.  When you take a look at the raw materials and wonder where it's gonna take you.  You just know that the original concepts will be changed, modified, or scrapped altogether in favor of something new.

Q:  Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?   A:  Because if it had four doors, it would be a sedan.

Finally got these completed.  Will disassemble and ship as kits.  The little girls wanted a squirrel houses.  I kinda like the idea of the squirrels being inside so I can eliminate them.  LOL  It would make great target practice.  :throbbinghead:  Anyway, started with a chunk of cedar, milled it into boards on the Shopsmith.  Used the table saw and band saw.  So glad to get these finished.

Needs some sanding and truing.  Will be done today so they won't freak out when it doesn't look just right.  The latch on the bottom allows the bottom to open like a door so it can be cleaned.

It is intented to not be air tight as the rodents normally build nests in the trees with plenty of fresh air.

A little porch for dining, entry and exit.  Some roof or the outer edge can be used to sit in the sun.

At this point in time I started on this at 7 PM I had to turn it down to a round in order to make this work because the blank of course was cut off size and too thick for my little bandsaw to cut.  Either way Elm wood bowl on the way and already in the works.  But that's what sitting on me bench right now.

Not meaning to be picky, BUT... that's National Pipe TAPER! I learned that when I was a purchaser for a large maintenance department.

1/8' x 27 NPT

sorry, only 1/8' x 27 NPS -_-

Supposed to read 1/8" x 27 N.P.T.   ACE   Made in U.S.A  ( three of them, at that!)

then there is a pair of 1/4"....one with just a "P" after the 1/4.  The other has THREADIT  1/4" PIPE   MADE IN USA

THEN...S.T. CO.   3/8" -18   NPT     CARBON

Next: R&T Co.   1/2" -RH

Then the big guys...Greenfield N   3/4" -14  NPT  H.S.  ,

And...GREENFIELD N   1" 11-1/2   NPT  HS

That last one is HUGE...and  ..SHARP!

Not sure I will ever need these...

Left social finger..tip.

I just ran the Greenfield 1" 11-1/2 through google-fu.....OUCH!   $225!

IF I were to buy all 7 of the pipe taps new....close to a Grand $$$$!

Hmm.....and, I am NOT a plumber....

@Cal

NPS is national pipe straight (no taper).   several sizes are using in lighting pipe nipples.   There are apparently a handful of different NPS standards, but i believe most lights use NPSM which is a mechanical fastening using a lock washer and nut (and i see TONS of lock washers and nuts in use on old lamps i help deconstruct at the Restore).

Thanks for the explanation Pete:)

Hey Kevin, I made this halloween decoration one year.  A dime store doll and a little red paint finished it off...

Getting started on the second bhilwara bowl this morning.   The smoke is finally starting to clear out here thanks to a low pressure system so it's much easier to breath now fortunately.
