What's On Your Work Bench?

Board on the right got 2 treatments of tannic acid and ferric nitrate, the one on the left got  1 each. Both were knocked back with a quick swipe of 150 to see whats up. I think the left board was actually still damp when I blushed it and some off green seeped through in the color in a spot or 2. It went back to the staining bench tonight and got another coat of each. Will see how we look next session.

Q:  Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?   A:  Because if it had four doors, it would be a sedan.

This one was ferric acetate followed by peroxide.  The thing I really like about this method is that it's color fast - not going to fade with exposure to sunlight like some dyes can.

I looked around but I can't find a picture of the one I did with the nitrate solution.

On the table saw:

Some extra's over in the corner from the last batch:

And some of the finished product, again left over from the last bunch:

Note all the dust on those, I've been slacking off!

I've been trying to post a picture of the scary bit that is usually the hold up when I make these.  The internet is being slow and stupid for me and the uploads seem to continually fail for that pic.  I have an old video of it, I'll put that up instead.  Might have posted it before.

Yep, just the sound of that bit raised goose bumps on me.

Mighty fine looking grips though.

Been working on a bowtie for the barnwood euro. I don't mind the split but don't want it to get worse, also the split is allowing it to twist. I didn't want to mess up the barn wood so this is purely utilitarian and allowing me to practice a little, it's going on the back of the board. Not a super precise fit but the piece is locked in there good, I'll dress up with a glue/wood chip mix around the edges later. Also moving forward with the maple shelf that will go on this piece. BIg winter going on here, inside work only but I can work with that. Kids outa school all week and been doing a buncha winter time eating. A Christmas Story on the shop TV, some history shows afterward,..and even got in the library a little for some ship content.

When I get all the dowels placed I want I'll still have a detail or 2 to add to hold my items of interest, but were getting there on my little shelf. Have some time off next week and hope to finish it.

Little shelf that's goin on the barnwood euro for my buddy is done, aside from finish. I now have a couple of items to clean up and figure out something to attach to the shelf. I found these items on my buddy's farm metal detecting several years back.

Not on my bench yet, but plywood purchased for mitered saw station with drawers/cabinet storage.

20260219_061219.jpg

My dear hubby helped me dig through stacks of plywood to get "the best ones" - and I made sure we restocked all neatly. 🙂

Still working out details, but looking at 6 foot of surface with drawers underneath to the left of the mitersaw and 2 foot to the right with a cabinet for my benchtop sander with a fold up extension (as there is a large doorway to the right) if additional length/support is needed. Miter saw part is about 3 feet with dust collection planned underneath.

20260225_151107.jpgLove you of my life calmly suggested that we need a new table between our chairs in the living room, so after a lengthy day two discussion about what kind of table she wanted, a candle stand was suggested and i jumped at the idea. So here is day one. 20260226_152924.jpgand day two. More to come and hopefully I'll remember to take pictures. Oh wood is walnut and my favorite part is the spindle hiding in that 4x4CoveringEyes

Very nice! What are the dimensions? Did you cut the top out with a trammel?
