    Q:  Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?   A:  Because if it had four doors, it would be a sedan.

You can do this! Yours will be similar to the one "Norm" made years ago. I loved the design and also love walnut. My wife, not so much. I gave it to a friend.

More to come and hopefully I'll remember to take pictures. Oh wood is walnut and my favorite part is the spindle hiding in that 4x4CoveringEyes

Off to a great start Rusty. Some mighty nice looking walnut you have there too. Love your vision. Following along. Keep the pictures coming please.

That's a really nice table, Lew. Whoever got appreciates it I'm sure. I'm looking forward to seeing Rusty's finished table.

Nice!! Walnut is my favorite. Love the WOW when the finish goes on (my favorite is Odie's Oil). That top looks like the grain is going to be great.

I like Satin walnut, often known as "red gum" or "sweet gum" over any walnut. And when it comes to walnut I prefer English Walnut over Black Walnut.

20260228_154909.jpgWell look what i found hidden in that 4by4. Now the part i dread, the sliding dovetail. Cross your fingers for me BitingNails

My best result were to cut the dovetail slots into the sides of the 4x4 before turning it round. You might try screwing/hot gluing a plywood square on the top end to keep the post registered when cutting the dovetail slots.

@Rusty S Excellent! TwoThumbsUp

Lew thanks for the video, I'll probably use some of those ideas, also found an article by Earnie Conover in an old issue of Woodworkers Journal that's about the same. Grandpa Dave 52 thanks for the suggestion but my lathe has indexing so by using a box jig for the router, problem solved. More coming 😁

Oops gave Dave credit four suggestions 4D my apologies Rusty. S

When I got my first lathe, I bought Ernie Conover’s book and started on this journey!

I wasn't that crazy about Woodworkers Journal when it was being published, but Ernie's monthly article was always interesting...one of the few reasons I kept subscribing.
