November 20, 20241 yr That would be easier than the approach I took. Just getting the threaded insert installed was a bit of a headache. But I am using 1/4" all thread, if I do another may try the 3/8" and see how it goes.
December 11, 20241 yr Popular Post Always had a desire to turn a Calabash bowl. So far all of them have ended up with a flat bottom. Hoping this one will turn out a little better. Still not the traditional spherical shape. No sanding, yet. Cherry about 6" diameter and about 4" tall. All Easy Wood Tools.

I have yet to make a calabash that I'm willing to share.
December 12, 20241 yr Popular Post Apologies. This should have been in the "Off the Lathe" forum. I've had a lot going on so haven't posted here in a while. Here's an Osage orange hollow form that I made for a holiday swap on another forum. I forget the size, but it's between 5 and 6". Finished with Myland's. Edited December 12, 20241 yr by kreisdorph
December 12, 20241 yr Popular Post Spalted maple natural edge bowl. I don't know whether it's sugar maple or Norway maple (I have both here). I took this bowl from the very base of the tree. Picture of the stump included. Around 6". I think the finish is Myland's but I forget.
December 12, 20241 yr Popular Post Work in progress. 14" walnut shallow bowl/platter. I had just applied shellac as a sanding sealer in this shot. There's a void that I filled with epoxy, but needs more work. I'm a rookie at filling voids.
December 12, 20241 yr @kreisdorph Those are all gorgeous! I am especially partial to the spalted maple one. That must have been a real treat to see it appear from the stump!

December 17, 20241 yr Popular Post I'm making a dice tower for my daughter and son in law. I've got the tower about 80% done. Once that is done, I'll make a base. This is green walnut. The colors are funky until it dries a bit. There's a follow-along thread on the AAW forums if you are interested: Dice Tower Project. I still have to burn the bricks in and install some deflectors on the inside so the dice don't fall straight through without tumbling. And cut the door.
December 17, 20241 yr Popular Post Twice-turned sugarberry. Who says you should cut out the pith? There were some cracks along the pith. It was the perfect scenario for coffee grounds and CA.
December 17, 20241 yr Popular Post @kreisdorph Air dried walnut can end up having some beautiful colors. Love the spalting figure patterns!
