Flaming this one caused cracks to open and some mishaping in the rim. Liming wax did a pretty good job on the cracks and liming wax took care of the cracks. IMG_0295.jpeg.6019d1c6df34e9a7ec43e018d06d2e45.jpeg

a little returning took care of lid and bowl rim .

Lime waxed the lid and started embellishing with JaHo jig.

I personally like the look. Fired pottery look from wood. Pretty cool.

Looks like this one will be 14 1/2” X5” from a piece of Red Oak that I rough turned earlier last spring. I don’t know if it was my skill level (lack there of) or the general characteristics of Red Oak  JT it was very dusty in the final cuts and a good amount of tear out on the end grain.  Seems like I sanded for hours on it. Right now I’m waiting for the 2nd coat of tried and true sets in. I’ll burnish that in tomorrow then figure out a jam chuck to finish the bottom.

Nice bowl! Red and white oak are prone to tear out.

Nicely done @Gordon. Very prominent and figurative grain pattern.

had some luck lately and managed to get a couple of pieces off the lathe the proper way, (I get some that exit abruptly ) The vase thing is white ash & mahogany measures 7 inches tall by 7 inches  wide at the max 4 1/2 at the lip. The bowl is also white ash & mahogany measures 15 1/2  in diameter x 3 1/2 inches high.

Got this off the lathe today. In the finishing room now. Top is Red Top. Upright is Indian Rosewood, bottom walnut. Had been telling the wife I would make this and finally happened.IMG_0629.thumb.jpeg.772599d14887060e6e01ec3dfc8e9b8f.jpeg

Working on a horn for dust collector on lathe.

Turn the transition from PVC TO black plastic.

Outside fits PVC and almost there on center

And this is what it looks like now. Still need to smooth the transitions inside an figure how to mount this thing.

This what it should look like when done.

Finished this vase a few weeks ago, nothing special but i get some questions on what design program I use. It is not rocket science to spite the space and vacuum  between my ears    :WonderScratch:.......... I tell folks that i use "whiteboard" for my designs and just thought I would share it here.
