I use K-cups for my coffee. I took a used one and tore it open. Medium CA, then threw the grounds on top and pressed them in a bit. Those K-cups are pretty handy for this.

Can you guys elaborate on this? I never heard of this. Are you using it as a filler with the coffee color? Kind of like mixing sawdust and glue together as a wood filler?

Yep, exactly. You can see that on the outside, there's a bit of white sawdust in the crack... or more likely raw CA showing through. Not ideal, but not really noticeable to most folks. The inside and top of the rim filled in nicely.

That is very cool! And it looks real, like really part of the wood. Since coffee is an organic matter that stands to reason it would appear organically with the wood. I really like this, I can see filling in voids in Walnut as well with it perhaps. But it really looks good on that project you got there, thanks for the tip guys!

Pecan bowl. 10x3".  Walnut oil as sanding sealer, sanded to 400, finished with Acks.

Was really nice to get some shop time in this morning. PXL_20241218_181015755.jpg.7f8ae68ef8fcc873daddadc306e91a82.jpg

Very nice Forty. Some beautiful color in that piece. Glad retirement has slowed up a bit so you can get some fun time in.;)

Yep, it would work perfectly for walnut.

That sux! I believe that grain would have really popped when the finish hit it, too.

Popped this one out this afternoon. In cherry and the plan is to embellish a bit too. IMG_0257.jpeg.35640d2923c1381c9f7f425594f10143.jpeg

I even used regular hand hollowing tool instead of the deep hollowing rig. About 8 inches tall

Been pretty busy lately. So will try to post a few I have done recently….

This started as a joke…. But it came out nice enough I think. The Mrs. self identifies as a “football widow” this time of year. So I made this and showed it to her and explained “It is for those romantic evenings when we want to stay in. She responded with a question mark face….

SoI disassembled the three pieces, showing her that we could have a candlelight chip and dip dinner by the TV.
Not sure when I can sleep in the house again….😁.

It is Ash- dyed, lacquered and waxed with a color shift pigment in G.O.A.T. wax from Craft Supply.

Nice Teesquare. I love the Keith Burns style finials. I have been making them a lot lately.

That's spectacular @teesquare. Thanks for sharing.

Hope you get re-admitted to the house soon. Nights can get pretty cold even in NC this time of year. On a positive note, football season will be over by the end of January.:P

Thanks Rusty -

I did not like the look of a traditional one - and maybe I should have carved one that looked even more oriental...?

Yep...had to break out the mink lined underwear last nite. And...I will be wearing a black vail and in mourning after the last game...until Canadian Football fires up...( it is actually a better, faster game😉)

Doing second turn on this Sasafras bowl. Had to sharpen up and do a shear cut to get this moderately smooth. IMG_0285.jpeg.1bc2960f9200164b7de6568e939ce7d8.jpeg

No problem here. I blackened it today with torch and added silver but not exactly what I wanted looks more gray.
