@Gerald...pretty cool. "Patch" might be a good place for some colored epoxy??

That is what I am thinking but will need to sye the whole piece first so epoxy will not interfere with color

It's hot. Too hot to want to stand in front of the lathe much. I picked up a couple of pieces of mimosa in a wood trade. I've never turned it before. It smells, but not a bad smell, really.

Never had the opportunity to turn that species. At first glance the open grain looked like red oak but the color is more like elm. As you can tell, I don't get out much to see more exotic species although there are a few of those around here.

Fully agree on the hot statement although we've had a couple days of reprieve.

The grain is spectacular on that piece Kent. It'll be more amazing when the finish is on.

That's a good take. I guess this would be the second non-North American species I have turned. The other was Tree of Heaven. I hate everything about Tree of Heaven, but the bowl came out OK. No rush to go back to it.

I would have easily mistaken that wood for red oak!

Turned a honey dipper and a piece of Orange Osage. I think the dipper looked a little bit too big for the jar but it'll work.

Looks like nine days and still working on the spirals. It does get old so I just work on it two or three hours at a time.  Up to 220 and about half way around.

Looking awesome!

It does look awesome, and I can understand the "getting old" part. I have a real problem with efforts like that for that reason.

Finished the mimosa bowl. 10" finished with shellac as a base, Yorkshire grit, and then Tried and True Original.

Also made a 7" cherry bowl out of a failed bowl that has been sitting around for 18 months.

Almost done with sanding and started on collar and finial. I think the collar is rosewood . The finial could be Zircote.
