new project i've been wanting to work on for a while has been relocation of parts bins, and add more, and on top will add a charge station for cordless units and storage, along with some shelves to the right of it, will be the counter and chop saw table, it works out great as my chop saw takes up about 20 inches from wall to fence, so, the parts bin cabt is only about 16 inches deep, so i can make an support extention past the cabt, to pick up an extra 3ft of length as i only have a total of about 10 now, till i hit the lathes. so, we;ll see, managed to get toe kick built, 2x4 will build plywood box, put a hardwood edge on ply, add the narrow upper so i don't block window with chargeing area, shelves ect. the chop saw bench/table, will have a hidden floor sweep, in toe kick so i can sweep up my messes for dust collection, Plywood gets ripped tomorrow, and hopefully i can get this done whilst the ole gal is off gallavanting around in kali with her ilk.

i have a whole shed stacked with these bins, i grabbed them at an old ace hardware store that closed a few  years back, why i picked up a whole lot, not sure, as i have plenty and frankly am only gonna use 12 , well maybe in just this spot. lol who knows. i got stuff to store, and never again see the light of day, i need stuff.

happy hump day.

well today is shop day, gonna rip the ply for the organization cabt. plan is to rip, put hardwood edge on front, and a half back on top and bot of cabt, with some left over either tempered hardboard or some thin ply, depends on what i can dig out with out much effort in the wood joint i have. maybe get it painted, begin a fabrication of some hold downs i need for the cnc, yeah they mak'm but i need some kinda different, see how my plan goes, really excited about getting this cabt done, been on list for months, and it will assist me in removing the wire shelves and relocate a few things, want to move cnc over to the east office wall, and adjust a few other tools, i'm gonna see if can shoe string the second table saw in, if not, gonna have to decide between the old work horse (unisaw from the 80s still going strong, but needs new side table ,old melamine top is worn and bowed, me thinks it got damp somewhere along the way) or the new to me jet 10 with sliding side rail. hmmmm, same horse power, haven't used a slider since i was a youngster, seem to remember i liked it, but..........some memories , well you know, should built it bigger,

happy saturday, will throw some pics up as i get thru it

okay pics as promised;  managed to get this mostly done, struggling with how to hang the drills and impacts, in my garage i used pvc white pipe, and hung at bot of upper cabt. thinking i might just do some wood pcs, i have measurements gonna draw something up and see if i can wing it.

i like it so well think i'm gonna build a two bank wide to other side of window, still will allow me to build lowers to put chop saw on and add drawers to hide the rest of the crap, that i'll put in there and never remember where i put it.

so had to modify the toe kick, forgot i used 4'' base in shop, so, in order for cabt to fit tight to plywood wall, yip had to raise it some, puy maple edge on ply cabt carcass, not sure ifn gonna paint or just seal, see what the boss says.

i drilled holes in upper to hit the upper plug for the charging station, in the shop just about every outlet that is at 50 inches has one at about 8 ft above it, this is due to well stuff against walls, was easy to do, and i'm care ful about all the things i plug in, one never knows.

any howz, maybe tomorrow i'll bang out the other one, and get the organizers in place.

happy saturday

i opted to ,make one outta wood, have a little clean up to do on it, but essentially done, gonna make the other bank of cabts for the organizer bins tomorrow, then plan the cabts and chop saw bench. may end up moving the lathes some, not sure, dang it wished i could make up me mind, lol

and i coulda made'm a couple inches shorter and get more access to shelf, hehe, they aren't glued yet, so think i'll wack'm tomorrow and raise up a tad.

cordless shelf.jpg

Edited by knockonit

if all goes as planned, well maybe, lol. i'm a gonna build a two bay next to this one for more of the organizers, probably shorten the cordless rack some, pal is coming over to play with 3d printer and the cnc, an ex employee is coming over for breakfast and an assist on an electrical item i have in another storage unit, hes a decent electrician, i know enough to be dangerous, hes not. lol

thinking i 'll just put a coat of urethane on work areas of cabt. and shelf edges, mitre saw station will have a formica top, i've a gaggle of it in one of the containers, i need to use up.

time to get this joint organized and squared away, before the heat hits, hehee, and hopefully this re organization allows me to put the other 10 inch table saw in, then once i use it determine if the ole work horse unisaw goes away. hmmm thats a struggle been with me for decades.

happy sunday pics as they show up

Wow, rj. You and the missus have sure been busy. Shop organization is a never ending task...at least for me.

Finally got those inlay pieces cut. That's after making a new base for the Bosch Colt. If all goes well, might get them stuck in Phyl's mesquite table today. Now that I've pretty well got this inlay business sorted out, I can see more uses for the process. Like box lids and sides.

No shop time tomorrow. Appointments all over, in every direction. Podiatrist, CPA, Verizon and, VA. Tuesday looks better...if nothing else pops up.

well did get cabt, built but didn't get hardwood edge on it, and or the organizers installed, did however get 3 d printer working, wowza, pretty simple even for a simpleton, and we did some cnc coniving, having a repeat cut issue, it tends to be off a tad, so there is that, but overall am extremely happy with all i've purchased, the printer, the lazers and most of all the cnc router.

yeehaw, sawbones tomorrow am for labs, then free till wed late.

happy days, hope the rain stays away

so, i may revise a tad here, looking at my pile of 10 inch blades for table saw, i may add a shelf at top of this cabt, and make some sort of blade storage, or maybe in the next set of full size cabts, i make a large drawer at bottom of one of base cabts, for storage, i mean, i change blades so little, i'm a big fan of the freud glue line, almost use them exclusively even though i have a whole lot of others, and i mean a whole lot, i was at one time a saw blade hoarder, pshaw, no one ever does that do they

rj in az

i'' maybe provide a silly dwg on my thoughts. of storage, gotta do some configuring to see if theres enough room

well slow day in da shop. med appts, and general laziness, and some sky leakage, off and on, enough to get windshield wet, again have med appt at mayo at 8, then free rest of day, if not raining found some particle board in so.phx, for cheap to make double thick counter tops, for mitre bench and a few other things,

did get hardwood edge on the new addition to organizer area, and did a dwg on the new soon to me miter station

and decided to make a deep drawer to put the saw blades in, i change blades maybe once a month pending how much ripping and cutting we do, and did also pick up two new in box glue line blades for cheap, so i'm set till mid summer maybe.

see how it goes, won't take long to rip out all parts,

i'm also gonna hit a local vendor galaxy lumber, they sometimes have prepped drawer pcs for cheap out of solid wood, might save me machine time, ect. who knows,

i have the drawer guides full extention heavy guys,

cheesey dwg attached, goal is to getr done. this week.

well as usual, i changed my layout, discovered the drawer material i purchased was shorter than anticipated, so adjusted some sizes of sections for drawers to maximize matl usage. and probably will adjust the right size cabt to accomodate the festool storage boxes.

managed to score some cheap melamine, particle board, and galaxy lumber always has drawer stock material, this was prepped and prefinished,

have included an area that will get cabts, hard part is re locating all the matl leaning in that area, might have to have a back up plan, lol

ole gal returns from her jaunt to west coast sometime today, she knows if don't answer phone to grab a uber from aeroport. hehe, traffic here has been ugly.

see what happens, may not get too far, once i build boxes a almost five footer and a four footer, i may not be able to move them around, kinda strained meself yesterday hauling the 3/4 ply sheets and unloading the truck, boy is particle board heavy, (gonna be top, and it will get formica.

pics attached, in no specific order, just lucky i get'm posted.  as noted back up plan a couple bottles of wine from the club my daughter enrolls me in each year, gotta have some grape juice on occassion

happy hump day

didn't take long to move everything, well yeah it did, who am i kidding, i'm moving at a ant eaters pace, anyhowz, built it pretty quick and set it.

grabbed all the drawer guides, and guess whats missing, the drawer guide screws, i have a gaggle for the recessed screws for other types but no pan heads, so, trying to decide if i want to torture myself by going to big box store or just go to bolt store is a tad farther but they usually have what i need, or i have to go to back up plan and start some grape juice therapy. ugh, i tore the joint apart looking for screws, so as soon as i buy a box, they'll turn up, just life i guess.

happy humper day

well hit up copperstate bolt and they can get'm but take a few days, so i sached over to a big box store, took two locations to find wha i was looking for lowes had it, and bough a box of 1/2 pan heads for the drawer side, the other cabt screws can be used for carcass side.

all came to a  halt, had to go pick up the ole gal at airport, whew, they took over an hour to get folks their luggage, so it fouled up me building any drawers, and of course she was hungry so dinna was on menu, no pun intended. once that was done, had to dro pstuff off at kids house they left in comikali, and now, whew, a restful moment to tear into a navel orange, grabbed some at the store and boy howdy they be some of the best in years.

tomorrow, drawer building, and hopefuly setting, haven't even given drawer faces a thought yet, hmmm, was gonna edge band the carcass but since the drawer faces will eventually cover it, me thinks maybe not,

still have to figure out the dust collection part, have to build an area in toe kick to sweep floor stuff into. get a line over to chop saw, before i finish all the drawers, whew, i'm exhausted already just thinking about it.

happy hump day, gonna finish me orange and well just might have another.

Good boy!

Need a couple of little keepsake boxes so the bottom panels need to be glued up.  Should be enough for two or three little boxes.

These thin little panels are  pain to keep flat while clamping.
