February 13, 20224 yr Popular Post Jim, curious (since I don't allow silicone in the shop) what does the silicone do for the extension cord??

The cord was in Pennsylvania temperatures year around. WD-40 to clean off tar, oils, etc, then some type of lube to keep the rubber supple. I still have my 'favorite' extension cord, a blue grounded 12g. 25' cord, which the manufacturer says has a sheathing with silicone in it. And it has stayed more supple than others. This close-up: Does it look like I'm tearing the wood rather than shaving it, with my scraper? I'm thinking it is time again to restore the scrapers to square and start fresh. I was scraping diagonally to even the edges with center base. If I was making enough of these, I'd want my screw clamp mounted to a sturdy Lazy Susan.
February 13, 20224 yr Popular Post Going thru an old toolbox and found these items .Lufkin sliding tape measure that can measure inside and outside dimension, and this knife.
February 13, 20224 yr Popular Post Those are cool finds @Al B. My dad had a set of calipers like those. Used to keep them on the ledge of the cash register at the parts counter. Wicked looking knife. Don't know much about the name, but looking at it, I bet it holds a good edge. Edited February 13, 20224 yr by Grandpadave52

It appears the tearout is more wood grain related to me. Hopefully someone better versed in scraper techniques will chime in.

I was probably about 10-12 yo playing (monkeying maybe) in the yard with my older brother with a knife pretty identical to that. At some point I asked him to toss me the knife (it was sheathed) which he did. But a freak accident, with practically no finger guard on that sucker the knife and sheath separated in mid flight... I still have about a 1" scar - on my nose - about where my glasses sit! Now, I could sure enough embellish a story about that scar - but the truth is it was just a couple kids playing around...
February 14, 20224 yr Popular Post Ka Bar knives are still in business, though they may have changed hands since yours was made. I had one when I was in scouts, but like so many other things from my youth it's long gone.
February 14, 20224 yr Popular Post They used to be made in Pennsylvania. I acquired two 'seconds' from an employee, gifted both. Arrived looking 100%, wicked-sharp.
February 15, 20224 yr Popular Post Marines LOVED their K-Bars. I had one while I was in the Guard.....was even able to shave with it. Bench served as a 3rd hand this evening...had a glue-up going on.. This is to be a rack to hold nine of them squares...Wider sections are to be drilled for mounting screws. These 6 are waiting on their own rack to be glued up... Might need one more spacer... Bench has an added chisel rack, now.. This rack was moved ( minus all but 2 chisels) over to the back of the existing chisel rack.. Letting the glue sit overnight...Blue handled chisels are Stanley No. 5002s, have a 3pc set of them... Waiting until tomorrow, to try again...
February 16, 20224 yr Popular Post So..IF I were to write up the story of this Tool cabinet rehab......WHERE do I post it at? BTW: 2-1/2 hours of shoptime, today.....Time for that Guinness?
February 16, 20224 yr Popular Post On my second Allagash Noeturna Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout and I didn't even get to the shop today
February 16, 20224 yr Popular Post Square's rack. As for what WAS on my bench? Some even had fancy handles.. This was taken down, and trimmed for length.. About where that black line is...so it can fit inside of a door.. Careful when you reach for THAT Jack plane... Edited February 16, 20224 yr by steven newman
