So..IF I were to write up the story of this Tool cabinet rehab......WHERE do I post it at?:WonderScratch::WonderScratch::WonderScratch:

BTW:  2-1/2 hours of shoptime, today.....Time for that Guinness?

Good question. IMHO, start a new thread in General Woodworking. Easier to keep track of and follow along.

A huge chunk of walnut 4.5" thick and 8.5" in diameter. It'll become a router "turned" bowl. Need to make a half inch mdf pattern/guide first. The plan is to leave a 3/8" to 1/2" thick, elongated 'S' in the middle as a divider.

This is an experiment. If it "turns" out nice, there may be more in the works. Wish me luck!

Good luck!

Good luck with it Gene ;)

Right now, a mess. I'm learning a lot of ways not to do woodworking. The new 20TPI 8" hand saw is pretty sharp. It's .018" thick blade is quite sturdy.  Probably not perfect for the smallest jobs unless I move into a real bench and vise. Like a lot of things, posture is key to safe accurate work.

The 32tpi Zona is in the drawer; I may get another 32 but want a blade thicker than .010"

My dad always told me, "a man that never makes a mistake is a man that does nothing."

"Good decisions come from experience. But experience comes from bad decisions. Learn from mistakes and move on."

Using this premise I have LOTS of EXPERIENCE!:P

Process of cleaning out the scrap pile....these have all been resawn to 1/2" thickness, with a few even thinner..

Found a few thin panels, too....might make a couple small boxes from all of this.

Mainly Ash and some Oak....may have to start a build-along thread?

Experience is a wonderful thing; it allows you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.

I usually learn better...by watching other peoples screw ups :OldManSmiley:

If you want to learn the "easy way" to get a job done, watch the "Lazy Guy".....always one in the crew. Yet, he never makes mistakes, always gets the job done by quitting time....and is never too tired to have a beer on the way home.  :ChinScratch:

I'll move this over here now that I'm working on it. I received a Stanley #78 from a women I went to HS with, (50th reunion this June). I started the clean up today.

Great start. Quite a bonus getting the edge guide + rod as well as the depth stop and original thumb screws. Those were usually left laying in a drawer, box or on a bench then never made it with the plane.

As of last evening, a lot!  I am trying to do some clean and organize so it always gets worse before it gets better.  But hey!  I have a floor again!  Check these before and after shots!  I will take this for a  win!  Probably continue on this today!  I included a shot of my other vice, a few of the Coleman’s I have been working on…Have a good day!

Nice clean-up @Bundoman. Those lanterns are cool. Where do you source your soft weave mantels? I used to be able to get them local (Walmart, Rural King) but seem to be scarce anymore. I have one that belonged to my dad that uses a small propane tank versus white gas.

BTW, hope your daughter didn't see you using her lathe to stage stuff...just saying;)

Without the sawdust I see some real ankle biters there.  I like how you set up your daughter's lathe but really man run a wire over and get her a light bulb.:D  I have a lantern looks like the one on the right.  Bought it new.  Been a lot of years since I used it.

I have a local Ace Hardware that usually has a few packs of mantles and our local Walmart is hit and miss but often has them. The new Coleman’s do not tend to be as durable as the older Coleman Silklites were.  I also have ordered a few packs from Amazon that are Peerless brand and they seem a bit tougher and brighter.  Have to be careful to order proper size if going that route.  My other good source is from a friend who does house clean outs.  He hollers when he has tools, lanterns, lumber or whatever.  When he finds mantles, he now pockets them instead of tossing them and brings them to me.  My wife calls him the “enabler” but it has worked out with my hobbies.

As for the lanterns on the Delta, I have already been busted.  Lol
