It was a great day with some really good food (& donuts) and just hanging out in Fred's shop. I suppose the drill could have stowed away in your van while nobody was looking and we all were eating fried chicken.

March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post Gluing boxes. Thinking about the old Pennsylvania Stud Lying peacefully in 14˚ warmth of my truck bed, thankfully sheltered by an A.R.E. cap. Near 2x4 full, c.1925, a little fire-scarred but thankfully not shat upon by ravens (the smell of one I can abide). Mebbie I'll hand-rip a few slats in a riftsawn manner; the grain is there. Then follow Steve Newman's Dovetail 101 lessons - still trying to make pins and tails out of the whole process - no fancy tools - just a rubber band with markings on it to measure straight
March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post BIL and I completed a Lichtenburg (fractal) burner, yesterday. Tried it out on several pieces of scrap and a wooden file/rasp holder. Got some neat designs. It's fun to do and, several future projects come to mind. BIL is a turner and, he's going to build another one when he gets back to IL. He plans to burn a few bowls and pens. He's already been experimenting with resin in his bowls. Resin filled fractal burning will add a new dimension to his work.

March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post Spent some time building a couple lamps made from Whiskey Barrel Staves. The one on the left has a center column from an old floor lamp The one on the right is a test student Clarinet Lamp, I have a couple expensive clarinets but there are a couple of design issues I need to work on before I use those. The toaster is one my neighbor wants me to build into a lamp. I'm still working on what to use as a base.

March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post Well parts of this will be on my bench until it warms up outside so I can put it back together. I searched google and looked at all the pictures that I could find but I can not find the maker of this unit. No markings anywhere on the machine that I could find... Anyone have any idea on who made this? Plane blade sharpener...
