June 7, 20214 yr Popular Post What is on my bench? Well, there WAS a high spot, preventing parts from laying flat on the top of the bench... We have ways... At first, I thought it was just a small area....kept checking... Yeah....hen found the non-moving jaw of the bench vise was also too high...had another issue.. In that circled area...was the remains of a screw, that had snapped off, and gotten almost buried into the jaw...had to dig that out, before the plane could level the jaw even with the other jaw, AND the top of the bench.. So things could lay flat, instead of... Looks better..now? Just a tad better..

June 12, 20214 yr Popular Post Don't you just hate it when you put something back together, only to find a couple "extra" parts laying there?

June 13, 20214 yr Popular Post As anyone that has fired a day's worth of blanks will say...all that carbon dust has to go somewhere..and the fellow in the arms room will find it, and have you clean some more... Black powder is bad about fouling things up....add in the grease from the end of the cylinders....Grease? To prevent a chain fire out on the end of the cylinder....makes you want to go change your underwear....after one happens. DAMHIKT
June 13, 20214 yr Popular Post Unable to use my bench for a day....have a Flash Mob... Which quickly became a "Dog Pile".. When another 4 showed up...

Steve pretty much nailed it Gerald, that black powder is pretty corrosive. Some say you don't have to go as far as cleaning the trigger housing and mechanisms but for every other outing, many say you should clean the entire gun every time, I do a complete breakdown every time, not too mention it's just really enjoyable for me, I really like cleaning these guns. You smokeless powder folks don't really have to worry about all that stuff, but black powder is a different ball game all together. By the way @steven newman, I use to grease the cylinder when I first started shooting but now I use felt wads, much cleaner and easier. Many still grease, and some use both, just a preference.
July 4, 20214 yr Popular Post Bench is a bit...busy, today... That the one glue up yesterday had to go and sit..elsewhere... Needed that Router plane.. Bottoms of the grooves needed leveled. Will see how today goes...
July 5, 20214 yr Popular Post One work bench is currently a repository for pallet boards. The other one is still awaiting a permanent top. For now, a sheet of 1/2" OSB will have to do. As soon as all the pallets have been deconstructed and the slats installed on the wall, a new top is in the plan. Nothing fancy. A couple thicknesses of 3/4 MDF banded with oak. Instead of 4X8, this one will be around 3X6 or, so.
July 13, 20214 yr Popular Post SWMBO has about five incubators going in the garage. She's been hatching stuff out left and right. Now, we have a bunch of Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rocks and some Guinea keets in a brooder. They have outgrown the brooder but aee not quite big enough to go in the big coop. Therefore.........grow out pen time!! Not the prettiest, but it is functional and will sit on a pallet that is covered by a sheet of plywood. Then, we will put up a fence around this hutch so they can have a run to get some exercise. Edited July 13, 20214 yr by Thad
