May 5, 20215 yr Popular Post Making a bathroom wall cabinet for the granddaughters. I am going to see if S-W can get a good match to the vanity cabinet that's already there. Time will tell.
May 8, 20215 yr Popular Post Watchman is installed...I am back home, and quite sore. Am on the Light Duty Roster for a while...so, not much is allowed to be going on in the shop.

Spring time is coming up and these tools need some TLC.....and sandpaper, and BLO, and paste wax. Thad, is this a modern push plow? That's the only thing that I can make of it. I have never seen one without a cross brace between the handles.
May 9, 20215 yr Popular Post Gunny, that is one beautiful box you have made there. Just green with envy here. Great job!

This one is from Hoss Tools out of Georgia and is awesome to use.
May 13, 20215 yr Thank you, Thad. I have never seen a 2 wheeler version before. That is nice and since you pointed it out, I do see the cross brace hanging over the vice on the bench. John, some really nice shavings.

May 16, 20215 yr Popular Post Took advantage of the 80 degree weather and did some turning. Cut the blank down to the size I wanted for a mill. Mills themselves should be here tomorrow. I needed to make one that was out of dried wood since the Maple Ambrosia was still technically wet wood cant really do much with that sanding wise on the inside of the mill until its completely dry so making a new one that will be usable out of kiln dried select maple.
May 17, 20215 yr Popular Post Insulation is done, so I need to return the scaffolding. About a 3.5 hour round trip including waiting on the paperwork and unloading. But, not including a couple other stops. It'll likely be around noon before I get home. Then, if my get up and go hasn't got up and left, I can start laying out the lumber for the walls. Hope to be ready for nailing Tuesday PM. Have guests arriving Wednesday for maybe 3 days. I can get back at it by Sunday...hopefully.
May 17, 20215 yr Popular Post Just got back from PA/NJ after 10 days of visiting the kids/grandkids. Brought back a load of cypress that I had made into an outdoor storage chest that somehow no longer fit the bill. Was told that it mildewed too quickly. Seems my internet savvy kids found out that cypress is subject to mildew.----Who knew?? I thought it was one of the ideal woods for outdoor use!!! Oh well---it'll find another life for something. Indoor or outdoor. BTW---NO problem getting gas for the trip.

In Louisiana cypress does last a long time but remember it is still WOOD. Yes in damp areas such as under eaves it will get a nice green patina . Not mildew maybe more like algae or slime. The answer is still if it is wood it needs some protection, such as shade or protective finish.

Probably got some sun light but limited air circulation. IIRC it never took on the green patina. But I never got to see it first hand---Covid travel restrictions. And I know for a fact it never got any finish on it. My daughter wanted it "natural". Now they're thinking of having one commercially built out of teak. Good for them. Thanks for the education Gerald.
