    Quick fix up.

Got one of a set of nesting tables from a friend that had a leg broken off. Process of repair: Take off one end of legs with the damage Work apart the joint on the other end since the dowel pins were at right angles Find broken off pieces and glue and clamped them back on Removed broken off dowel pin. Cleaned out holes Filled remaining missing piece with stick epoxy, let cure a few minutes then chisel and sand down to flush Glued in new dowel pin and reglued the rest Lighty sand top Apply a bit of touch up marker where needed Apply a couple coats of shellac, then a coat of lacquer Before Putty with overfill Putty after sanding Glue up Back together
  2. As a child growing up I remember in a few homes I would visit there were these wonderful furnishings with these really beautiful dovetail designs typically on the surface of the furnishings. I had not thought much about it because in the early 70's it wasn't hard to find or view quality furnishings, it was taken for granted. Homes were still filled with the "good stuff" from the 19th century on up through the mid 20th century. As a child I did not know what I was seeing, because it was so normal. But now looking back at the homes I would visit with my parents, to visit friends, relatives, cocktail parties etc, within those homes were some really beautiful furniture! One of the furnishings that seemed popular and I remember specifically two homes we would frequent that had the Lane furnishings within. Lately I have been perusing Facebook Marketplace and Scandinavian and Mid Century is all the rave, again, and I am happy to see it coming back. I love that time period and style. It's known as MCM furnishings, or Mid Century Modern. I have always been pulled to that design and style, one of the reasons I embarked on my sculpted rocking chair builds awhile back. I do believe, correct me if I am wrong, but I think Lane started out as a box and blanket chest maker in the early 1900's. Their cedar lined chests are in abundance in the classifieds, beautiful today as they were then. Here are a few of the Lane Acclaim Series of furnishings I remember as a child, very cool, I still love it! From the little research I have done, I am not sure if this style was produced mainly in the 70's or earlier. I know many of you remember this style. 4. Not mine, but interesting and would fit with a lot of modern furniture. Now if I could just figure out how to make a 3-dimensional Escher-esque table that would be really cool.

    Small table finished

I just finished this small table for my wife. She chose the woods and dimentions. It is Purple Hart and Bettle kill Pine. She didn't care about the design and left it all up to me. I put the legs on 45 degree angle to the corners and carried the wood theme down the legs too

    Cabriole Leg Table

From the album: Pine Is Fine Custom Cabinets and Furniture

This end/night table is handcrafted from solid cherry hardwood. Its legs are custom cabriole legs, that were hand shaped and sanded to finish. The scallop skirts are assembled to the legs using a sliding dovetail joint. The table top is 14x18 with 2" frame around to hide the end grain. The frame is joined using biscuits and routed using a round over bit.
  12. I am so ready for a weekend and a few days rest from therapy, not that I won't be doing it here at home this weekend, I just don't have to go through the measuring. Today was a good day and I spend about 15 minutes on the knee bending machine. So it moves back and bends the knee and then straightens back out. I was able to get 111 degrees of bend today so I am making great progress, but I have to get to at least 120 before the Dr. will release me. After a day of therapy and the bending machine, the bicycle and them helping me bend and measure it, I was ready to get in the chair and rest it. When I am up on it for a little while it swells up pretty good. Enough of that, I did get a little while in the shop today. I finished taking the finish off a night stand for a friend of mine. First time I have been in the shop much at all and I really enjoyed it. I even had time to do a little clean up on a Stanley 1910 No. 5 I have been working on for a while. Still got a bit more to do to have it ready to cut and put on display but it is coming along. So I have a few more grits to go through and hope to get to do that this weekend and finish this one up. I have two more in different stages on the other bench. What is on your weekend Patriot Woodworker Agenda this weekend?
