November 3, 20241 yr Popular Post Not sure what kind of wood this is. Came in a box-o-blanks that I ordered a while back. It's harder than fir and softer than pecan. This will serve as a bushing. The smaller diameter end will fit inside the top of the mast, and the larger diameter will rest on the end. Hole in the center will fit the shaft of the Moxon antenna that I made. Not a difficult lathe project at all. Rough sanded and finished with UV resin. I think it will get the job done. .40

I love these types of projects that are designed to be integrated into a larger calling!
November 3, 20241 yr Popular Post I've been on a sort of hiatus. Sometimes you can get caught up in the day to day hum drum that you forget to slow down and partake in the things you enjoy and work so hard for. I was finally able to get time to slow down a bit so I threw this hunk of ash on the old spinner. Turning just takes me away to my happy place but, something tells me I don't have to explain that feeling to this group.
November 14, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Well I said in September I would post more and just did not get around to it. got the idea for this from a pagoda box done by Jason Breach at SWAT. Lid is pecan , bowl sweet gum. Time for some Christmas. These are about 3.5 inch tall. Crepe Myrtle has some nice curl. Now for larger tree. Yes it is one piece.
November 14, 20241 yr Those are amazing @Gerald! I have a Norwegian turner friend who does a lot of Christmas trees. They seem very popular.

Sycamore is my favorite wood to turn. The grain patterns are amazing and in some you can even get several color differences. This is a very purdyful piece. I'm sure the recipients are going to enjoy this one for a lifetime.

Hargis JrThank you! @User74 I got lucky with this piece!
November 23, 20241 yr Popular Post Another wave bowl and another learning experience. First mistake was the wave was cut too thin- it's about 1/8" thick. I needed to determine a different way of gauging the thickness. Second problem just stupidity- the Amsterdam acrylic ink is water based and raises the grain. Needed to sand off the roughness and apply the ink a couple of times to get it smooth. I missed a couple of spots on the third application and the "black" isn't consistent. The bowl is about 5" x 4" and made from cherry. Wipe on poly top coat. Black is really hard to get a good picture.
November 23, 20241 yr @lew; that is beautiful. I love the contrast between the black, red and natural.
