September 17, 20241 yr Popular Post This piece of box elder was really punky. Rather than try to sand out all of the tearout, I just left it. One of my relatives will appreciate it. :-)

September 19, 20241 yr Popular Post Yesterday I set out to make a guitar pick bowl. When I started forming the outside, I realized I didn't want to turn away all this spalting. So I opted for a candy dish of sorts. Spalted sugarberry (aka southern hackberry), finished with Myland's. It's about 5" x 2.5".

September 20, 20241 yr Author Just finished a bakers dozen so only going to show a few at a time. This one is spalted Sweet Gum. You know the poor man’s Walnut. It was so far gone I really felt good getting it done. Finish 100% Tung Oil. This one is Willow Oak from my son’s place. Also tung oil. This Walnut did not finish as well with Tung oil as Watco danish but it is what it is.

September 22, 20241 yr Author Popular Post Time to add a few more to the list. This is Spalted Pecan I came across in my collection. Tung oil 100% finish. This Sweet Gum turns out to be aged just right for great Spalted patterns. Lacquer finish. This is Bradford Pear . It had rot lines as I have no found spalting in BP. I dyed with Chestnut Stains to blend those lines. Finished with lacquer.
