Walnut, about 7". Sometimes the simple ones are the most impressive. Not quite finished as I have to turn off the tenon later today.

I like the color contrast.  Nice turnings.

@kreisdorph Those are both awesome! I'm amazed at how white the sap wood is on that walnut piece!

I was happy to see that. I have a 22" diameter x 80 ft walnut laying in the woods behind the house. I cut off a piece about 20 ft from the base where the first crotch starts. After sitting for a month, the sapwood was still as white as when it came down. Hopefully it stays that way.

I cut down a swamp chestnut oak on my place last week. It was the first oak I have harvested. The tree isn't huge, maybe 15" in diameter. I grabbed a small crotch from the crown. That seems to be my standard process when I cut down a tree. The wood seemed much harder than SCO should be, but I don't have any experience with it prior to this. This is the first oak I've cut down. I have considered oak too pedestrian in the past. ;) That's primarily because my experience from 30 years ago was with red oak. Turns out, white oaks are pretty good stuff for turning.

Almost embarrassed to toss this up on here.  This is my 3rd segmented ring turning.  Kind of a little bowl thing in maple and cherry because scrap wood.  I am gradually getting better technique-wise but still have a LONG way to go before I am halfway competent :)

I don't know, it looks mighty good from here. Segments look tight and the rings look flat and level. I've only done a couple myself. Did you make a sled to cut the angles?

Nothing to be embarrassed about there. I have yet to try segments but hope my first one ends up this well.

You're far enough along to make a nice looking bowl,  Looks great.

Small cherry bowl. Interesting patterning on the sapwood. Yorkshire grit followed by Myland's.

Walnut is odd. Sometimes you get really clean, white, sapwood, and other times it dirties. This one is more of the dirty kind, so it's not quite what I wanted, but close enough.

The cherry plate is taken from the pith section of a log. Same with the walnut platter. I often use the entire middle section, pith and all.
