New way to turn a spoon . Was thinking of ordering Ron Browns new ladle jig but looked to YouTube and found this technique. You turn the handle and reorient to turn bowl . The en sand or carve the back. By the way the guy in the video used Easy Wood tools

Thanks Dave. Is it o.k. to post some pictures of the leaves here? The colors this year are really good.

@teesquare, that grain and chatoyance is awesome!

Thanks Lew- yes, this piece of wood may be one of those that I will not see again. Don't think this one will make it to a gallery....:)

Absolutely. We love pictures. The Free for All section in the Scrap Bin is designed for such. Looking forward to seeing more from your view.

Getting excited  like a kid at Christmas to get this small vase into one piece this weekend :BitingNails:

The pics here show the resin ring glue up onto the upper section  and the semi finished upper and lower sections dry stacked up. Working on the outer shape for the upper , the lower part will be contoured  at some point.

The resin ring is Alumilite clear slow, I am new to using resin but I love this stuff. I learned a bunch of how to work with this product from Youtube vids by Jake Thompson . He does a great job of explaining , a little verbose at times but his instructions will not leave you hanging.

The resin ring  is a muddled color mix of red/ purple and gold and should augment the purpleheart and maple nicely when polished up. Keeping my fingers crossed.

That's gonna be gorgeous! I really like Alumilite products and Jake Thompson is the master. I try to catch his video pod casts whenever I can.

OK the turning part is done and into the sanding phase then finish.

Most nervous time for me because  too often round third and heading into home plate is where I usually get smacked with a dose of OH NO !!!!!!!

So far so good learning the double taper cut to produce the staves was an interesting learning process but I really liked that part because it was really new to me can't wait to try it again :BangingHead:
