In the immortal words of Jim McKay, "Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sports... the thrill of victory... and the agony of defeat... the human drama of athletic competition... This is "ABC's Wide World of Sports!"

Hate to see that beautiful work blow up on you.

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;
And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,
But there is no joy in Mudville—mighty Casey has struck out.  :rolleyes:

Not on the lathe yet but headed there.........:TwoThumbsUp:

My first attempt at tapered stave construction for a vase.

Curly maple staves shown dry fitted to check the initial fit, ( the stave flat picture has only 11 shown :BattingEyelashes:

The saw blade angle was 15 degrees, the miter angle is 4 degrees, stave length is 5.75 inches and will be the lower partion of the vase. Plane is for a feature ring on top of the base  and a domed cap to top all off.

The planning was kind of challenging to figure out the jigs / fixtures . As usual I started out over thinking everything and after two days  reverted to a couple of quite simple setups :WonderScratch: . The first 4 degree angle was cut with the taper jig and the second added with the cross cut sled set up. In both cases the blade was at 15 degrees.

Not sure how this will go but excited about the opportunity to try something new to me.

Ask any questions.
