Do you put those slabs into your kiln now or wait until they have been rough turned?

Rough turn first.  A lot less wood to dry that way.

Processed a couple of small logs that I picked up while visiting a friends ranch.   The Carter log mill comes in real handy.   Cutting out the pith and making a flat on the bark side took about 10 minutes for both rounds.

Spalted chinaberry crotch - 5"

Black walnut - 6"

A friend at woodturners have me some walnut. One was standing a few years dead and the other had been on the ground a couple years. This is the first piece.

Looking Good, @Gerald! Do you add CA glue around the edge of the bark to help keep it from coming off?

Yes I do. Usually outside after first cuts and inside likewise. Sometimes will add a bit more before sanding. A little shellac before glue will keep the wood color clear of stain.

On the lathe today Bradford Pear natural edge a big different from normal. Call it winged but also bark on sides. Hey nothing ventured………

My wife is constantly taking turnings off the shelf as presents so I copied an idea from @Gerald- "Friendship Bowls". Mine aren't as fancy as his as my artistic talents are nil. Just simple little bowls some from walnut and some from elm.

All finished with Yorkshire grit and Hampshire sheen.

Wow very nice and I love your set up. Hell my lathe was never that neat and clean when it was still in the box.

107 here today with a heat index of 112.  I managed to get a couple of hours in the shop before sunrise, but by 0830 it was sweltering in the shop with AC and Fan blowing full blast.  I cleaned up and locked up and went back in the house.

Thanks everyone for looking in.

I work mostly work in isolation, that is I don't see any woodworkers. Friends yes but none who have done more than saw on a 2 x 4

They are always supportive but they are not woodworkers . It is a very nice feeling to receive any review from my peers ,  colleagues who "work the wood".

Thanks as always for your tome and attention.
