August 20, 20232 yr Processed a couple of small logs that I picked up while visiting a friends ranch. The Carter log mill comes in real handy. Cutting out the pith and making a flat on the bark side took about 10 minutes for both rounds. Spalted chinaberry crotch - 5" Black walnut - 6" .40 Edited August 20, 20232 yr by forty_caliber

August 24, 20232 yr Popular Post Today it is fresh Bradford Pear. Did not intend natur add l edge but that is what came off.
August 24, 20232 yr Looking Good, @Gerald! Do you add CA glue around the edge of the bark to help keep it from coming off?

Usually outside after first cuts and inside likewise. Sometimes will add a bit more before sanding. A little shellac before glue will keep the wood color clear of stain.

August 26, 20232 yr Popular Post My wife is constantly taking turnings off the shelf as presents so I copied an idea from @Gerald- "Friendship Bowls". Mine aren't as fancy as his as my artistic talents are nil. Just simple little bowls some from walnut and some from elm. All finished with Yorkshire grit and Hampshire sheen.
