November 27, 20241 yr Popular Post I wasn't sure 'd get this done for Thanksgiving, but somehow it came together. I probably won't build another one of these, I found it to be fairly tedious working with all the small pieces (sanding, finishing, drilling all the holes) and then I tried to fill it up...that was even worse. But it's done now, and if that candy looks more like Halloween than Christmas that's because it is.
November 27, 20241 yr Popular Post Nice Fred. Colors look fine for Thanksgiving too. I get what you are saying about putting all those candies in place. Put one on while knocking another off. Geeze!!
November 27, 20241 yr Popular Post Awesome job Fred. Agree with everyone else, looks perfect for Thanksgiving; just "redecorate" for Christmas. Finial is a perfect touch. Making a couple of those was on my "to-do" list this year. Maybe next year will be the year.
November 27, 20241 yr Popular Post Looks great Fred. Is that walnut? I made one for my grandson alternating maple and cherry. I had the bottom engraved with my initials and the date. Maybe (hopefully) 30 years from now, he'll look at it and think of his old Papa. Where did you source the finial? I couldn't find anything to match the threads on the rod. Ended up with a wooden angel and a threaded insert.

For the finial, I turned it myself, the one on the tree is ebony, my first anything made from ebony. It has a 1/4-20 threaded in it. I did a second one (actually it was the first one) out oak to make sure i could turn one (novice turner). Edited November 27, 20241 yr by Fred W. Hargis Jr

Great idea. And kudos for signing and dating it. No doubt good memories will flow when it's placed in 30 years.
