    New custom "assignment"

Guy that bought a couple Polish Eagles last year wanted to know i could make a custom plaque for one of his customers. He sent me a pic and picked up the finished product tonite. 24" in diameter round. Must have liked it - I even got a pretty good tip - which is unusual in this business.

     Wooden plaque

I was asked to help with making an accent piece of some-kind for an interior decoration. My wife went to an antique store and purchased a unique item, not knowing what it was. Later, I discovered that it was a wheel wright’s traveler. I made the wooden plaque and mounted the traveler. The wood plaque is ¾” x 12” x 16” flat sawn white oak inlayed with 1/42” x 1/8” black veneer. General Finishes High Performance satin was used for the finish. Guess how many boards were glued to make the 12” wide plaque? Clue: more than one. Thanks for looking. Danl

    As the Eagle flys.

I just found this photo that I taken in Stockholm, and I'm thinking about carving /gilding this as my next project. There is a lot of undercutting, which will be interesting. Now, to scale this to a reasonable size!

Finally got this one cut. !/2" plaque, 12 x 16". Mostly FD polar #1 blades, still need to stain, finish, and add a hanger.

    Turkey Tail Plaque Plans

Does anyone know where I can borrow, beg, steal or buy a pattern/plan for a turkey tail fan display plaque? I have been asked to build one which is a simple project but have no idea of the optimal size dimensions and the configuration. I have never seen a turkey tail mount and am unsure how the tail is mounted in the plaque. Thanks Don R

A few pics of some of the things I do. Not a lot of fancy but it keeps me occupied and just enough variety to make things interesting.

    Wood Burned Wedding Plaque

Former co-worker asked if I would burn a wedding plaque. Her wife-to-be had a piece of wood that had special meaning to her. I believe her father was going to do something for her years ago - but passed before he could do anything - thus the special meaning for her. Initial request was to simply put name and wedding date on plaque - if you know me I don't do simple very well - LOL. With their approval I went on to design several layouts and let them pick the one they liked - this is what we agreed on! Congratulations Tina and Stephanie! This was the initial piece of wood I was given. Heavy saw marks and not flat at all After using hand plane and drum sander - this is what it looked like. Beautiful piece of wood After several layouts - this was the pattern we all agreed on - ended up changing the names to initials. Lettering was too small for me to comfortably burn the names. Pattern transferred Burning complete with a couple close-ups. Still need to put several coats of poly on it

    From Warsaw with love!

Whenever my wife and I travel overseas, I always try to find and photograph any type of shell that I can find. These may be on the street, in churches, chateaus, or private estates. This shell was found in a church in Warsaw, Poland. While not representing anything in the real world, you can get the idea! Here are some of the steps that were taken to complete the carving, along with the plaque, that the shell was mounted to. We are headed to Sicily for 3 weeks and I am really looking forward to what I can find there.
  9. I'm finished when it goes in the house.. If it falls apart? I'll have to study horses before I try another picture like this.....I could have put their eyes on their nose and would have looked just as good. Grandpawdave52, whats the 52 for? this was the rope molding in the trunk, a Lowes product... I tried to get them to give it to me for buying the 7 Dremels plus having to drive the 100 miles where the only Lowes had any of those sets left..Yes they would have sent them but for 57 freight we decided to see some different country that day.. That is their regular charge if they have to send anything directly from a store and it is a standard charge for all stores... didn't know that...could have been 56 but seemed too much anyway.. The rooster is still sitting there not glued up...Since I changed all the colors different than the picture I don't have anything to go by and the glue would already have set up by the time I get halfway finished, not good...I know I'll have to enlarge a picture of it but hey I am a tight wad and this ink does cost for the printer... I added extra wood under the left side to give more better look?

Through in the shop for now

Nothing unusual about us for nothing is completed when promised.. So we both worked in our shops for our 57th year together...I guess it keeps us out of the beer joints!!! Well at least I run out of used pine I had saved from tearing down the big bird house and switched over to maple for the stands of the many many Nativity scenes she is still making . At least the maple only takes a couple of coats of finish where the pine took buckets of paint before it started building up enough to stop and do something else... Still fighting my new dentures. I had my teeth pulled and dentures installed all in one day about 54 or or more years ago. That was not a recorded venture so trying to put two and two together for a time and since my one ones were wore out some 20 years ago I sure been dreading fighting a new set.........I was watching an elderly lady sky diving on tv and her top plate fell out of her mouth and just thought to myself she will have much more pain fighting the new set than if her chute don't open ... Custom Memorial/ Keepsake Chest

Hi Everyone I was asked to create a special keepsake chest for a couple in memory of their first child. The chest is made from Peruvian Walnut and measures 28 x 16 x 10. The Memorial Plaque is made from Holly and laser engraved. Although I had to learn a few new techniques in the construction of this project I can’t say this was a fun project.

    Another project done

I mentioned a while back that I was making a mounting plaque for one of our recently retired firefighters. Here it is. Told him the cost for him was to email me a photo with his presentation axe mounted to it on the wall. The fighters' association (our club) got him the axe, but didn't give him a mount for it, so I did this as a gift to a friend. Had the wood and stain, got the patches from the FD and the metal decorations from a local award shop. I had them stick all the accoutrements on for me. This axe is mine from my Air Force Reserve unit when I retired from there. His is slightly different in color, but the same size. Wood is red oak with Old Masters Golden Oak stain and their satin polyurethane. I used to be a fan of P&L #38, but I can't get it in small quantities around here any more.

    bird plaque

I made a large clock that featured a lot of art shapes. The more I looked at it,the more I thought two of the shapes looked line a bird in flight. So I made a wall hanger with that thought in mind.

    Perch Man of the year

Just got home from a week of fishing at Drummond Island, Michigan. Made a plaque for the person who catches the biggest perch. The guys liked the plaque so much it will be an annual thing to bring the plaque back and hand it over to the next one. At least they will be able to display it for one year!! On the back will be the year, the guys name and the size of the perch. This years winner had a 12 1/4" perch. I had the biggest perch last year so I decided to make it for this years winner. Hopefully this will go on for years to come. At least my name is on the back for making the plaque if I never win it back again for the biggest perch .
