Hello, D Bryan New to the Group. I make Nativity Scenes for Christmas season. I used treated Plywood last year. It is very ruff does not cut smooth. But will last forever. What would be a better quality plywood that would be durable. I use 3/4”

Hard to believe that on Friday we will have put 2020 behind us. Let's hope 2021 will see the end of the pandemic! Our Patriot Turners- @PostalTom finished up his Christmas stocking tree. It turned out fantastic and can be seen in his update to a previous post- @RustyFN has a laser and he has combined it with his CNC machine to design some emblems to finish off his turned bowls. Check out his post to read more about what he is doing and the comments from our members. @HandyDan gave us a Christmas eve peek at some of the ornaments and displays he made- He received lots of positive comments in his post and he gave us a source for some of the embellishments. @AndrewB is looking for some ideas on reverse chucking a bowl. Our members came through with flying colors! Expand Your Horizons- We all have turned small lidded boxes. Most of them have had slip fit type lids. Here, Sam Angelo demonstrates how to add threads to the box and lid. In this video he demonstrates how to turn a beautiful Christmas ornament using a cardboard mailing tube. Several months ago we were discussing ways to liquid proof turned vessels. The use of epoxy seemed to to be the preferred material but the trouble was in how to apply it evenly. Zac Higgins shows what he did with a rotisserie motor. Everything Else- Last week's YouTube woodturning videos from Rick Turns- I am always mesmerized by the work of Frank Howarth. His video style, the projects and the detail are top notch. This one is no exception- I finally finished up the lathe dust collection modifications. The PVC elbow sat a little high. The replacement is made of wood and turned pretty thin. Hope it is strong enough- It's hard to get the light just right to see the dust movement but it does work a lot better than the old hose mount. This was softwood and 80 grit but you get the idea- Safe turning and stay well

Still not there yet. I put the colors on while the football game was going at noon today. I mix my colors as I go. Gotta darken moms blouse for it is too close to the same as the blanket !

Nothing unusual about us for nothing is completed when promised.. So we both worked in our shops for our 57th year together...I guess it keeps us out of the beer joints!!! Well at least I run out of used pine I had saved from tearing down the big bird house and switched over to maple for the stands of the many many Nativity scenes she is still making . At least the maple only takes a couple of coats of finish where the pine took buckets of paint before it started building up enough to stop and do something else... Still fighting my new dentures. I had my teeth pulled and dentures installed all in one day about 54 or or more years ago. That was not a recorded venture so trying to put two and two together for a time and since my one ones were wore out some 20 years ago I sure been dreading fighting a new set.........I was watching an elderly lady sky diving on tv and her top plate fell out of her mouth and just thought to myself she will have much more pain fighting the new set than if her chute don't open ... I

Its hard to stay up with her when she is feeling good.! 60-40 solder when we moved here in 99 was 3.95 each if you bought 12 rolls at a time. Now its 18.95 but don't think she has gone up in her charges near that much. I'm using used 2x4"s for the bases that came from my cocatiel bird house. This one is going to Houston.

Can't say I'm half way through but at least I'm started on her stained glass Nativity Scenes. A little brighter color with clear lacquer. Each stand has a different width groove plus gluing in a plug on each end so the pine, yuck, don't close up as the seasons and humidity changes. Time it takes to do 130 or so boards is about 15 minutes total time for all pieces....so Howdy Duty will have to wait..

I made several of these many years ago for family. To be honest, I don't know if it was an idea of mine or someone else. Anyway I embellished it with some exotic woods.

I had something like this in mind when I bought the eggbot. It will draw pretty much anything you can imagine. Downloaded these images, manipulated them to work and drew them on a maple egg. The egg is hollowed to about 1/16" for piercing. Used the eggbot to draw the outlines and then stippled them. The piercing is a random pattern. It's my intention to darkly stipple the areas not penetrated and then to turn a holly base for the whole thing. I think it will be really pretty when done. Steve
