March 24, 20224 yr Popular Post Today it's raining so I figured it was a good day to finish building a couple of Humming Bird Houses. They are made from the 'Toilet Seat' cut-offs we have after glueing the Wine Barrel Heads together and then cutting out a Bar Stool Seat on the bandsaw. I match them up, cut one in half, Tru-Dowel them together, finishing them off with oil, and hang a Wrought Iron Humming Bird inside. SWMBO hates'm but the public loves them. When we Glue the heads back together we end up with the two side pieces that we don't need to glue because of the size of the cut. I joint them and then glue them together to make Cheese boards and in the future Clocks. So I'm getting five usable pieces out of two heads, and not sending most of it off to be used as firewood. The Workmate is prefect for keeping the pieces aligned and square. This is the first time I used my new "DrillBock" and it works as advertised. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milescraft-DrillBlock-Hand-Held-Drill-Guide-1312/204590191?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US Edited March 24, 20224 yr by frenchwwr
March 24, 20224 yr Popular Post Here's the first try at hang a Humming Bird in a hoop I also have hung Candle Lanterns in them.
March 24, 20224 yr Looks like Shangri-La. Shangri-La is a fictional place in the Kunlun Mountains (昆仑山) described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by English author James Hilton. First board planed on this Plankenstein table. Lotsa dark shavings into the fireplace.

March 25, 20224 yr Popular Post These boards were part of the runner frame for the two-drawer sideboard I salvaged. The deep ruts were difficult to plane out but I persevered. I think three are poplar - very light, very dry, at this point. And one spruce. These may go into storage until a table saw is procured.
March 25, 20224 yr Popular Post My buddy sent me a picture of the upper handguard with the finish applied. Matches pretty close!

March 26, 20224 yr Popular Post NEWS FLASH: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE This morning Jim used a Stanley No. 61 Marking Gauge for the very first time. Guess it's never too late. Backstory: While planing three boards to consistent width, they somehow transformed themselves into quadrilaterals. Wedge-shaped, one might say. High noon, the table will be rigged for bench work, boards clamped singularly, each planed to true parallelograms. The ends may also be squared, reducing my work to rectangles.
March 28, 20224 yr Popular Post The 'Weather Bird' says: "IT SUCKS OUT!" It was 14˚ with a +/-10 wind, so it's an inside work day. My workbench is clear so I figured it's a good day to tackle cleaning up my Desktop. Edited March 28, 20224 yr by frenchwwr

March 28, 20224 yr Popular Post Thanks Lew it looks like a good idea but I have a Mac. Most to the pictures are ideas I've scooped off the internets and need to get them into folders
March 29, 20224 yr Popular Post If mistakes are an indication of progress, then I'm definitely at the top of my game.

I've moved mostly over to keeping aliases only on the desktop, periodically dropping everything into alias folders linked to the cloud. And use column view in my folders, so file preview is large enough to sort of remember what it is I'm looking at, and maybe even why I saved it. Since I'm still working in admin, I've got to download PDFs and whatnot regularly. So the right two inches of desktop, I try to keep clear. Note for non-mac users: Downloads to Desktop begin in the upper right corner of the screen.
