Q:  Why does a chicken coop only have two doors?   A:  Because if it had four doors, it would be a sedan.

Wow,..that wood is something else

So I work Friday and Saturday nights...don't get a lot done on those days at all..but still tend to hang out and think a little and mock things up a little and think some more :ChinScratch:...Our oak chair tear down has a long possible list, I really like the wood. This has been sitting since Friday..thinking possible barn door Euro down the road and a few other things.

Also on a side note...I hate a d!@#$ skill saw!!! I've had the one on the right for years...picked the one on the left up about 5 years ago with a drill package and used it for the first time yesterday...much better..easier to handle..but I don't like them. I finished my cuts on my old tool chest with a hand saw (to not mess up part of what I  was keeping)  someone gifted me a loooong time ago. Notice the crack in the handle..it's gonna need a little repair :OldManSmiley:. I'll refurb her to use and plan on getting some more to refurb. Then we'll do one of them saw tills you boyz got ;). Anyway..theres some ramblings with my coffee. Not joking about the hand saws..I've alreaady started some homework  on refurbs...looks right down my alley...you gent's can tell me where I mess up and what saws are best used for what purpose.

I'd say you got your scraper working quite nicely

I blame the wood, but thanks, Dave! Out of three rectangular scrapers, all high carbon Swedish Tool Steel, hardened and tempered to Rockwell 49-51, there are twelve potential edges to use.

However, Fig Newton's Law always applies: Even after carefully dressing all three the same way, I end up with only a few inches here and there suitable for getting those wispy shavings. :WonderScratch:

The mockup looks nice, @aaronc. You may be on the right track. That wood color reminds me of some European kiln-dried packing crate hardwood I used to score outside a shipping warehouse. It'd weather up nicely, fairly fast. (It was kiln-dried because it was for export)

That circular saw on the left, I've never seen one of them. Guess I do not get out much either. Even on my Betamax tool video series tapes, there's nothing like them ...

I'm sure it came from Lowes..there was a sale or something and I needed a drill I think......but I can't tell you much about it either ........cept it's a lot more user friendly than the bigger one. Sometime I'll pick up another larger one for when I need it and send the other down the road. It's a clunky heavy thang.

With the nasty weather outside I decided to stay inside.

Phase one done.

Turn those license plates 90 degrees and give them a twist and and all you'll need is a tower to make a windmill. ;)

My son is a big bmx rider and made one of these using chain links and two rims. Very kitchy and unique.

I stole the idea from the Internets and then changed everything about the original design.

Got the orbit out today and knocked the bark off a bit. Whatever that original finish is it quickly clogged up my sandpaper the other day on my flat sample and today as well with the round orbit paper. Once it's pretty much gone I just got another piece. Didn't do anything on the inside tray area...just got her started and did some de-burring all around on the edges for splinters. I'll probably do one more session with the orbit sander and then go to hand sanding which is my preference.

Cleaned up my lip a little today..did a little quick mock up on design. I used some screw drivers to get a feel for space. I'm setting this up for hand tools..could be Grace screw drivers or could be files etc...but especially if I go with the Grace I don't want anyone in them ( no that anyone is here to get in my tools ) but the Grace screwdrivers (Like Da Boss here has) are hollow ground and I wouldn't want anyone picking them up to use for anything else....they're gun work only. All that being said note the hinged lid on top using our hinges off of the chest.

I have several spots that'll need a little bracing/tightening up just on what I have here with the tool tray and sides and we'll probably throw some support of some kind in the middle when shelves are added. In the end we may go for a depression era hardware type display or upland game shotgunning kinda thing of the same era...we'll figure the details out while we're sanding and getting it in good user friendly shape for the next 50 or so years :OldManSmiley:   Whatchu boyz think..
