I picked up some hard maple and cherry from a guy about an hour away. The maple is 3.5” thick and the cherry 4” thick. Both are kiln dried. Man this maple was some hard stuff. Here is a box from the maple.

That's a really nice shaped turning, @RustyFN! Not sure but the color makes me think it might be walnut. Of course I'm not a dendrologist and don't even play one on TV

@RustyFN. That is some beautifully figured wood Rusty. I have to agree with Lew, sure looks like black walnut. Love the box shape and how you did the lid.

Whew, I thought my screen was really distorting the color.

Very creative and cool looking. I'm amazed there are no signs of any voids in the plywood layers.

I used new tips on the carbs. There were a few spots that chipped out and a view voids but luckily not many. I believe this sheet was made on a Wednesday. Lol After it was finished it actually had that big French word for shine and shimmer that starts with a C.

This was discussed quite a bit over on the AAW forums. The box Rusty made is indeed maple. It's likely that the photo make it look darker than it actually is. Carry on, Rusty!

I really like the way you included the sap wood! The color contrasts are striking!

I was pretty happy the sapwood stayed so clean.

Great on the white sapwood in walnut, must have gotten to it right after felling.
