Finishing the JaHo on a couple bowls. Think maybe Box Elder is maybe too soft to get good cuts with the jig.

Eastern red cedar bowl I took from a very old, dead cedar on my place. Three coats of shellac (1# cut) and then Yorkshire grit. 9" x 7" deep. The bottom needs finish still.

They were mostly punky areas, but likely cause by insects. The base of the tree, up to 5 feet up, was almost entirely eaten up by carpenter ants.

Nice! Love the grain patterns and that the bark stayed completely intact!

I'd bet the whole shop smelled good after turning that, at least for a little while.

Had some Bradford Pear on the floor for a while. It cracked bad on one side but good on the other. So decided it was time to put it on the lathe.
