Nice Cole... er "Lew" jaws!

Thanks! My Cole jaws were bought for an earlier, smaller lathe. Cheaper to make extensions than replacing the jaws

Neat Rusty, what did you use for the outside shape mold?

Cool Rusty. Like the twin Westies as S&P shakers too.

Nothing. I just left the natural shape of the bowling ball.

We had one a few years back. She drove our Border Collie crazy trying to herd her....good dogs.

I cut into some downed logs on my place. I was a happy camper when the orange sawdust started flying. I like variety. Cutting these old logs is like Forrest Gump's box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get.

Osage Orange is very hard (2600 Janka hardness). That combined with the natural edge, means I ended up with a lot of tool marks. It will be interesting to see how hard those are to remove. I have no idea how long that log has been laying there. Years, for sure. The internal moisture was still 15%.

I didn't realize it was a bowling ball until just now!

Well in this case Kent, you got a beautiful piece of wood. Love the shape and the live edge. Very distinctive.

At John C Campbell Folk School. Brasstown NC. If you have not been here- it is an experience that is hard to put into words. But- Just know that it will be an incredible week that you will never forget, and you will be planning your next trip to JCC before you leave😁

Wow, I had not heard of that place before...they really have some neat classes. I'd love to be able to attend some of the beginner-type ones.
