I had just finished sanding and finishing it. I flipped it over to cut of the tenon and went too deep. That's how life is though, you have to have the bad to make you appreciate the good.

It has to do with some epoxy resin. Hopefully it will work. I have turned epoxy only once and it was an experience to say the least.

I got a little too thin on the bottom and it busted out while I was trying to remove the tenon. Wow, Bummer! An alternative to epoxy might be, if you have a Longworth chuck or Cole Jaws, to re-chuck it and turn away just the center damage- creating a circular hole. Then glue in a circular "patch" of contrasting wood.

It was going to be a pecan platter so I could possibly work in a small vase type thing to hold the picks and the cracker.

I would not only forget I bought it, but certainly wouldn't remember I put it in the last place I would look. Edited March 26, 20242 yr by Grandpadave52
April 9, 20242 yr Popular Post Started this last week, segmented vase 7 1/2 in dia x 10 1/2 tall cherry and birch. The center band is temporary spacer made from 2 x4 stock to hopefully to be replaced with a feature ring design of cherry, birch and veneer. Decided to try this between centers at least to get the outside shape finalized. The guts will be completely finished also after it is separated from the spacer pine ring and chuck mounted / turned. IMHO cherry and birch are some of the easiest woods to turn. The grain structure and density of the wood is simply a joy to turn. Keeping my fingers crossed I can get this one to the finish line. mike calabrese55 Edited April 9, 20242 yr by calabrese55

April 9, 20242 yr Popular Post Thanks Dave & Lew for looking in. The sun came out today a day too late to see the eclipse but it is almost 70 and I am taking the rest of the day off to fall on my face on somebody's new mowed lawn. mike calabrese55
