October 6, 20214 yr Author Popular Post Made the frame for the TV screen today. I decided to add some reinforcement to the joints due to sides being long and narrow. Paul
October 6, 20214 yr Author Popular Post The frame is finished and installed. Now it’s on to the cabinet doors and internal dvd drawers. Paul
October 27, 20214 yr Author Popular Post We are back on the media room this week. The first job is to get her sign off on the raised panels for the cabinet doors. I did a couple of examples and she chose the most rectilinear one which is fine. I was leaning towards a softer version that’s made with a set of infinity knives but I like this version also. Now it’s glue up all the panels and get onto the rail and stiles for the door frames. She wants mitered corners so that makes manufacturing them easier but more complicated on the glue up. Oh well. Disregard the quality of the cuts in the picture. I made the panel with a very old 2” router bit. I’m not willing to use a good bit for demo purposes. The actual panels will be made with a fly cutter with replaceable carbide cutters. Paul
October 30, 20214 yr Author Popular Post I finished the rail and stile mock-up. Hopefully it will pass muster. I did get all the raised panel blanks resawn and glued and sanded one up to see how it looks. As long as she approves the mock-up all should go fairly smoothly from the point. For me it’s a little too rectilinear but mine is not to question why 😎 Paul
October 31, 20214 yr Popular Post Paul, You do some spectacularly beautiful work. I'm sure the Mrs. will be quite pleased with the results.
October 31, 20214 yr Author Popular Post She is actually an integral part of the process which can be a double edged sword. She designs most of what I do and that gets right down to the wood selection/grain etc. We have been doing this process for 45 years at this point. It can get frustrating at times when she will scrap a piece of a project because it didn’t turn out the way she envisioned it etc but over the years I have learned to deal with it. If you notice in most of my projects I am building prototypes or examples for her. That cuts down on wasted shop time and wood. For many of those years we built custom homes with high end interiors that she designed, and then as a broker sold the home. In the early years she was right there in the shop with me. The up side of this relationship is she has never argued over buying tools and wood ! Paul
