May 7, 20224 yr Popular Post 'Bout ready to start the glue ups for the Limbert table legs. Just need a trip across the router table on the FrakenSmith to get smooth edges on those pieces I screwed up in the ripping process and, those with rough edges from the mill. No S4S for this cheapskate. Gave away the Sears 6" jointer long ago. Was glad to see that worthless space hogging piece iron outta my way. Probably start the gluing tomorrow. Mothers day celebration is today. Probably , Tuesday I can have some fun with those mesquite sections. Edited May 7, 20224 yr by Gene Howe
May 7, 20224 yr Popular Post Today it’s more milling on the pantry and then I have to divert to a rush project for my buddy’s boat shop. He needs a small teak door for a boat. Wow. I went to buy the teak yesterday and it went up again. The piece in the picture was $640.00 with tax. Paul

May 8, 20224 yr You’re right Gene. It’s getting ridiculous. I feel like I’m working with ebony. The next step for teak is to go to selling it by the ounce like ebony.
May 8, 20224 yr Popular Post I can't help but wonder what the deck of the USS Missouri and sister ships would be worth...they are all teak.

May 8, 20224 yr Popular Post The boat next to us at the marina is a 92 foot teak boat which was made around 1910. It was a wedding present for one of the Rockefeller heirs. They recently put the replacement cost at 2 million just for the wood alone. It is solid teak throughout and beautiful. Paul
May 8, 20224 yr Popular Post Like a friend of mine, Paul Miller, in Canada that builds sail boats says. "If God wanted you to make plastic boats he wouldda made plastic trees." Edited May 8, 20224 yr by Gene Howe

He sold me "seconds" ebony violin fingerboards for $10 each from the "old stock", ones which didn't make his cut ... mebbie I should take him a bottle of cognac and make a deal on another few handfuls. Got an idea for a box with a sliding ebony violin fingerboard lid. Maple bottom, spruce tonewood sides. They'll be big. Bigger than Big Wheels.
May 8, 20224 yr Popular Post Thursday I quarter-saw'd a 3x4 - 22" post of old wood. But not before I saved its skin. Then made a second tray for Williamsburg Auntie. I call it: Williamsburg Tray No. 2 Before it ships, maybe some acrylic on the bottom divots? Or include tweezers and band-aids? Ouch! This boat is going on a Three Hour Tour with that repair!
May 9, 20224 yr Popular Post Met a gal today who uses paints and acrylics. Got the idea to smother the splinters with urethane. Tell ya what. It SOAKED in. But does not bleed through. Wee see how it came out tomorrow. And I'll hit Pharmacist Dan up for more plunger tube liquid applicator thingies.
May 9, 20224 yr Popular Post If there's a veterinarian handy, you might hit him up for some hypos. Bigger needles, larger container. Then, for those reeely big jobs, there's always the turkey baster.
