The enhancement is pretty cool and creative Rusty. That said, that piece of maple is spectacular. Love it.

Beautiful Lew. That is some gorgeous grained walnut. Love the non-traditional shape.

Long story short, I was eyeballing a tree that Picture This said was a butternut (white walnut). I'm 99% convinced it's black walnut. I'm holding out a 1% hope that it's a butternut with really dark heartwood. I'll need to get into it more (need a new chainsaw chain).

Anyway, I h ave a personal tradition. When I cut down a tree, I make a bowl right away. In this case I cut out a crotch. I split the crotch to leave the pith on one half. This is the smaller half, consisting entirely of sapwood. My picture timestamps say it was an hour and a half from the time I cut into the tree to the time I had the bowl turned. Apologies for blurry pics.

Hard maple I finished a week or so ago. A friend took my photos and did some Photoshop magic. These are all the same bowl (duh). It's about 8" across. Finished with Myland's.

Yep, laser. The Laserpecker 1 is about $300. I share images directly from Google Photos to Laserpecker. Couldn't be easier. The log incorporates my falconry background.

This is from a black locust that had been cut down some years ago. The bowl is 8" and weighs 1.1 lbs. The large hole on the outside doesn't go all the way through.
