Turned out very nice, Lew. Both the platter and the engraving. Were you associated with the Intruder in the Navy?

That looks pretty dog gone super to me Lew!

I like it Lew.  The beading tools appear to perform well.

Yes, our squadron (VA-65) was IIRC the 3rd  Navy Squadron to get the new Intruder. This all occurred around 1963-64. I was an AQF (rating no longer in use) and worked on the DIANE computer and the Track and Search radars used for navigation and precision all weather bombing.

Great work. That rim detail really sets it off. Have not done any laser work just wondering how much difference wood and finish makes to final effect?

I'm new at it, too. I put a "wash coat" of poly on before burning. That seems to help make the image more crisp and reduce the surface ashes. The wood species seems to be the biggest factor especially when doing the "picture" burn. Burning my signature and date are not nearly as temperamental and have come out nearly perfect on every surface.

This burn looked good on the test piece of lauan

Have had some of the globes for these ornaments a while just waiting for finials. Club has been doing ornaments last two open shop meetings and I had to brush up so I could mentor . The blue one is solid Bradford Pear. Spaulted ones pecan. Finials are Indian rosewood, red heart, crepe Myrtle.

stands are easy to make and either add value or make for a side sale.

Those are awesome Gerald. Your "brush" didn't need much "upping."  Love the 2nd one from the left in the bottom picture.

Agree with @Grandpadave52. Looks like you didn’t need any practice. You’re gonna need to teach us how you make those bases.

Great ornaments.  I like the display stands too.

For those stands I'm guessing you formed the wire yourself...what great job making them look alike! I would be remiss to not say how nice the ornaments look, pretty neat.

No it was turned and then the round part carved and sanded off.

Love the dye color. Really gives it a natural shading effect one might see on a real tree.
