Hope all of our turners have heat and electricity. Looks like we are due for another dusting here in south central PA.

Our Patriot Turners-

@Gerald spent some time cleaning up around his lathe and sorting out drawer contents. That's something I know needs done in my shop a sediment shared by our members.

@Ron Altier has been working on a couple of projects. He spent time modifying some canes he made. These are beauties! Ron tells us the what and why of the changes

Check his post for some of the nice comments left by our turners-

Ron also finished up a really nice pizza cutter. This cutter will see a long service life. Really heavy duty-

Ron explains about his project in his post-

@RustyFN Posed a question to our forum about bowl coring systems.

He received a few responses but maybe you have some ideas, advice or experiences. Why not head over to his post and chime in!

Rusty also asked us if we have any experience with a Grizzly Lathe. I'm betting some of have used the one he is looking at-

@Bob Hodge posted this question over in the Finishing Forum. I think it applies here as well. Bob is curious about abrasive pastes. Who uses them, what kind, top coating. Please check out his questions at-

@FrederickHis looking at an Axminster scroll chuck. He wondered if any of our turners could provide some input on their products. Maybe you have first hand knowledge you could share with Rick-

We are still getting responses on @AndrewB's thread about HSS tools. Andrew picked up a new skew and and a round nose scraper.

Andrew showed us one of his practice pieces for the start of turning an egg.

Andrew picked up a Pepper Grinder kit from our sponsor Woodcraft. The kit is pre-drilled. Andrew asked us how we would mount the pre-drilled pieces on the lathe

Please let Andrew know if you have any suggestions-

Pat Carroll has been doing interviews with well known turners and posting them on YouTube. This particular one is with Richard Raffan.

For The Newbies-

@AndrewB showed us the new skew he received. That made me think of my love/hate relationship with that tool.

It happened that this week several videos were posted on sharpening/using the skew.

This particular video covers sharpening all turning tools but the skew chisel is included.

This video covers 5 basic cuts that can be made with the skew

In this video, Rick Turns makes a project. He uses the skew for quite a lot of the cuts and has some interesting camera work to view his processes.

Expand Your Horizons-

Regardless of your experience, sometimes things don't always go the way we plan. The difference is that experience can take a bad situation and turn it into a piece of beauty. Mike Waldt shows us how-

Turning spheres can be fun and they make awesome conversation pieces.

This video is a recording of a live demonstration. It includes some of the jigs that can be used.

Some of the jig construction can be clarified in this article by David Reed Smith.

New Turning Items-

Didn't find anything new this week but the folks at Woodturners Wonders are continuing their sale until February 28th.

He seemed pleased with it. It ended up being just a tad over 10" in diameter and about 4" deep. Finished with beeswax and mineral oil. Turned completely with Easy Wood Tools ( @Jim from Easy Wood Tools ) The texturing was done with a shop made texturing tool.

Safe turning and stay well
