FINALLY done! Well, as organized as it ever will be. The hardest part was finding places for all my table saw and, other jigs. Wanted to have them handy to whatever machine they're used with. There are a few small odds and, ends that still need a home but, the bigger stuff is all in place. At least the middle of floor is no longer a repository. I can actually work without needing to move a bunch of stuff around. Will be assembling the scroll saw stand, today. That's the last piece of the puzzle.

It’s been a long and tough journey getting to the point I’m at. We finally found a house in Barnstead, NH with an oversized two car garage. We got it at a pretty good price and had some money left so I could get the garage ready for my shop. I had some foam insulation blown in and had more outlets installed and some better lighting. We (Amy wife and I) put up some shiplap pine for the walls. I have all my tools here, but the shop still isn’t ready. I’m waiting for a mini split to be installed, and still have some trim work and to roll out so my water based poly on the walls. The mini split won’t be installed until after Thanksgiving. I’m still experiencing other i…

Well seems like it has been forever since I have been here and did anything productive in the shop. I hope everyone is doing well! Since January I have averaged sleeping in my bed one night a week. Now my daughters softball season is over I get my weekends back. Lol. Well got in the shop for a bit today and cobbled this clamp rack together out of scrap wood. Been thinking about inverting because I have a lot of ceiling that is not being used. So, why not use that space. I have some other ideas down the rod. Rack isn’t perfect but it is functional…. As I age, it's becoming a back and hip killer! 15 minutes of standing at a bench requires another 15 minutes in a chair. If anyone else has had this problem, what sort of mats or other cushioning works for you? I was thinking of doubling up some of those flimsy HF mats but, they are a PITA to keep together, as they crumble up after a while. I'm sure there are better solutions and, figured someone here has found it. If so, please point me to it. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

I need to frame in a small storage closet in the shop and spent a little time yesterday laying out the basic approach. This morning I went to Lowes to pick up some 2x stock, thinking it had come down in price from the pandemic. Nope, at least not much. 2x4x8' were still over $9, I seem to think they were in the $4 range pre-pandemic. Guess this will be something on hold for a while yet.

Bought a metal file cabinet at the UofA's ongoing surplus sale. Added some boxes to the drawers, to hold the miscellaneous tools used with Frank's router table. It sets just under that router table extension. Cabinet and bent collet wrenches Router fence and table inserts, That hex rod sticking out is attached to a cordless drill I use to raise and lower the router lift. Not that I'm lazy, at all. Here's that router raiser drill. 5$ yard sale find.

You guys have seen what I have to work with shop wise anyways. How ever it was high time that I cleaned up my trash heap inside the shed and make it useable for wood working since I'm enjoying the hobby quite a bit. The dresser and pretty much everything in there will be coming out in some way shape or form. The dresser is getting tossed it was DEFINITELY NOT made to sit outside in the air. I've got the first load to the dump to include a lot of broken tools and stuff that just wont work anymore. Basically its being cleaned out. Not only that the table and two book cases will also more than likely be cut up and tossed in the yard waste bin. I had a bit t…

The problem with starting over / building from scratch is all the little things. Today I started out with the intention of building something that requires a rabbet. Just a little cabinet to hang under the Shopsmith and keep stuff organized. No problem. Just set it up and put my sacrificial...oh wait... I haven't built a sacrificial fence yet. In fact, there are a whole lot of table saw jigs I haven't built yet, but this particular one is getting in my way. So shifting gears, the fence jig is in glue-up and I am back to designing things.

Somehow, in the past 4 months, an area in the Dungeon Wood Shop has become a mess....time to clean it up, maybe evict a few spiders...needed to move the tablesaw out of the way.....first I had to clean up around the saw, just to move it.. That LONG hang makes it easier on my back, AND knees. Got to where the saw could be moved... Had to scrape the floor a bit...move some of the toys around, re-arranged where 2 Mitre Boxes would sit, put the router table away... I can even use that Langdon No. 75 Mitre Box again...and a Stanley No. 2246 is stowed on the router table. Got to the point, I could slide the tablesaw back into the ais…

The biggest time saver in this shop is the sink. Commode helps but being able to wash glue and stuff off my hands has helped a lot. 30 x 62'

The results of saving 40 pallets from the crusher. For some reason, the pic won't rotate. About half are oak. Some slats are 3/4. Made for some HEAVY pallets. All nails in the oak ones were spiral nails. Had to use the saws all on 'em. Should be enough to cover that 40' long wall. That is if I can get them loose from the ceiling.

Guests have departed, landscaping is done...for now, the Honey Do list is pretty well done. FINALLY... I can get back to work on the shop building. First order of business is using Great Stuff to seal all the gaps at the roof to wall juncture. The once removed previous owners had started the process and almost completed one 40' side. Next up is patching the 9 holes that were cut in the sides for the dogs they were raising. Most are around 18"HX 12"W. One's a bit larger. That one was a swamp cooler inlet. Then, I can start laying in the fiberglass batt insulation. After which, comes the stud walls. The structure has 10' walls. I'm only going up 8'. Then comes the ele…

I started looking at the dust collection hose on my bandsaw and thought it was longer than it could be. Solution is to swap position with the drill press . Also hoses and wires on the floor moved to wall mount and compressor moved from behind the saw. All this also created open wall space which allows me to build a small drawer shelf for accessories for the saw. The first two pics are the old arrangement, with the second showing DP and BS better. Now for the "final" arrangement . Drawer shelf is not complete as yet

I normally hang out in the turning forum but this isn't really about turning so I'll post it here and hope my friends from down there will see it. I built my shop several years ago over a two week vacation with help from my brothers and nephews. When I built the shop I put a drop ceiling in it but knew almost immediately that was a mistake. It wasn't very long before I ripped that ceiling out, but then I never put a new ceiling up. Over the years, I've known I needed to as the insulation was exposed and didn't have any support. I've had put it back up a few times and the shop was also pretty dark as there was no reflected light from the ceiling. Well, this year I finally…

Just how I left my shop Easter weekend, mama came down with Covid Easter night, barely stepped foot in shop since, I'm tooling around now in the shop, kind of enjoying myself, the last 5 weeks has been all about others, I'm just standing here in the middle of the garage, thanking God I still have my wife, and my son roared back to health too. And the shop is here, waiting for me.

I've been working on a project to reorganize and refit my workshop over the last several weeks. Here are the results along with the new ShopSmith Mark 7 that replaced most of my stationary tools. Panning clockwise from the far right corner. While it's true that a project like this can never be truly finished, this is better than it's been in a long time. .40

So back in my youth i was into loud music in the car. I used to have 10 disc magazines for my cds, load 10 in, change them next month. This has lead to me having a cd collection of a little less than 700. Now in the basement where the shop is, radios get no reception. So I had bought a cheap little am/fm/cd player. It only held 1 cd at a time. I would play 1 cd till I get tired of it. Well the player stopped working 2 weeks ago. I figgered it got too much dust inside of it, and tried blowing it clean, and using some rubbing alcohol to clean it, but no success. we have WiFi set up in the unit, so I asked the kid what did I need to do to have music down there. I bought an A…

While working on getting the shop together, I began to wonder what the best way to store the flammables? I used to keep them in a cabinet I made, but I don’t think that’s the right way. I looked at the Flammable cabinets and man, you need to take out a mortgage to get one of them. So my question to you guys is, how do you safely store your flammables?
