You guys have seen what I have to work with shop wise anyways.  How ever it was high time that I cleaned up my trash heap inside the shed and make it useable for wood working since I'm enjoying the hobby quite a bit.  The dresser and pretty much everything in there will be coming out in some way shape or form.  The dresser is getting tossed it was DEFINITELY NOT made to sit outside in the air.

 

I've got the first load to the dump to include a lot of broken tools and stuff that just wont work anymore.  Basically its being cleaned out.  Not only that the table and two book cases will also more than likely be cut up and tossed in the yard waste bin.  I had a bit too much fun with the chainsaw today and I'm glad I bought it because it will come in handy to make everything manageable to fit in the car or in the yard bin.  Its a slow process but I just needed to get it done so I can buy more stuff for wood working such as a table saw and a couple of other things maybe even a better and more powerful bandsaw  maybe a bench top planer and or jointer in the long run.  Once I get this thing cleared out I'll have quite a bit of room in there.  Ah yes the other side of the shed is where the lathe is.  Its still a disaster right now yes but cleaning it out currently.

 

CAN WE SAY OVER DOING THE SPRING CLEANING...  IT NEEDED TO BE DONE.

The big clean out is underway I took out the big dresser the hunk of junk lathe from harbor freight is in the car ready to be hauled down to the dump this afternoon..  I hauled out the dresser and yea it was easy peasy to break a part I was going to use my chain saw to cut it up.  But NOPE my nice little 3 Pounder did the trick only took a couple of whacks to tear it all out.  The backing of the dresser the thin laminate and the bottoms of the drawers I'm going to save to put up behind where the lathe is going to go in the back corner I'm planning for a nice or decenly looking work bench 4x4 legs  all the way down to where the lathe is currently sitting since the delta is only 100 pounds its just going to set up on the bench and I'll leave enough room so I can buy the extension for it.  So progress progress progress.  Can we say SPRING CLEANING.....................

No those went to the dump....  Eventually I'll be purchasing a tool chest.

Day 2 of the big shed shop clean out well its pretty much cleaned out.  Small junk will go when the community dumpster arrives like my old little chef smoker man that thing was reliable all these years.  Some other stuff will go as well but that wont be until later this spring.  But in the short run I'll be building a bench with the back wall all the way up until almost the kitchen island that's sitting in my shed which still has to be cleared off and organized as well as the table with the drill press and the saw that will get turned into a gluing up area.  But yea this hole project was and is a win win for me.  More room for working space and well needless to say I'm considering putting in an air system into the shed with a bit of piping.  I'll still use my little air compressor for the pump but I'll wind up hooking that up to a larger tank that is plans in the works once I get the benches in.   I thought this would go a lot slower than it has been.  Its still messy in there but a lot cleaner than it was still got a lot of little things to do.   The big steel pot thing with the pipes sticking out of it is yes my coal forge fire pot.

 

 

 

 

 

Afternoon of Day 2 on Shed remodel....  New bench 1 out of 4 or 5 I think theyre 4 foot sections of ply board  I've still got to figure out what I'm going to do in the back corner because I do eventually want to use some of that space.  I still have to make the bench for the lathe so that's going to be a big part of the space that's used.  Still need to add cross support half way down the legs on bench 1.

I don't think you'll overload that bench...looks like it would hold an elephant.

Yea I didn't think it would I've still got to put supports on half way on the legs but I'm half way waiting until I get the portion of the bench built for the lathe.  Building materials arent cheap.  the 4 2x4s and the 1 12 foot 4x4 and two 4 foot by 2 foot pieces of ply board ran me just under 100 bucks at home depot. Building supplies ARENT cheap anymore sadly.  But the ply board is a 1/2 inch thick so should be fine.   Just ran out of screws yesterday so I got to swing over to home depot this morning and pick up another box of the longer screws.   Its been a long time coming 3 years now for that shed to get a good clean out.

Now would be a good time to insulate the walls, you'll appreciate next winter.

In all honesty it wasn't as bad this winter seemed to be fine as long as it was nice and dry. I'm looking into those little camping fire stoves for the shed as well for winter time heat I found that I'm not out side as much during the overly colder days.  Which does not happen as often where I live.  But seeing that its quite cheap it may be something I'll be doing this summer.

FRIDAY finally got both of the benches done I still need to build one more maybe plus a small one for the extension of the lathe that I'm planning on buying so I can do longer pieces.  How ever the bench seems pretty sturdy I havent bolted anything into the studs as of yet.  Still have a lot of organization to do but progress is progress.  Not only that the lathe sits at a pretty good working height as well so I got lucky with that one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

When I put the lathe on the bench the way it was in the above picture ^^^^^^^^^^^ I realized that it wasn't going to be sturdy enough.  So I decided to beef up the support system of the legs.  Had some left over 4x4 from the first bench  cut it to length with my miter saw added some feet just to make sure everything lined up with the 2x4s and good to go.  I think I may have over built this bench.  But its supporting an expensive piece of equipment so better safe than sorry.  Later this summer I'm considering running some pipe in the shed for compressed air.  So that should be a fun one.

 

 

 

Another nice item my electrician will be here tomorrow to put in a couple of extra outlets for me so that will be a bonus.

Looks good.  Might it have been better to cut the 2X4s off to match the 4X4s with a hand saw?

That's true but I wasn't thinking about that at the time.

I like following projects, so thanks for keeping us updated. I love the planning/building stage.

Electrical work finish my little brother was able to come over this morning and install the plugs this morning.  Had me thinking he was going to electrocute himself doin it with out shutting off the electricity  but that's his job so I'm not tellin him how to do anything except where I wanted the plugs.  Only took about 20 minutes to do the hole thing.

 

 

 

 

 

I decided on going with 2 double outlets for a total of 4 plugs each I think that should be plenty for what I need to do.

Well so far so good still gotta bolt the lathe bench down and to the wall studs how ever I've gotten the wood pieces I saved from smashing apart the dresser hopefully this will help keep them pesky little wood shavings out from under the bench at least it should.  I'm still contemplating something for a dust collection port for the lathe just using my little shop vac instead of buying some hugely expensive tool.  As well as still working out how I'm going to run piping for compressed air in the shed should be fairly simple but the less I have to mount the better.  I'm also still trying to figure out how I'm going to mount my bench top grinder to the other bench which has yet to be bolted in place I'll have to move it when I go to bolt the lathe in place and mount the lathe bench to the studs.  Any suggestions on running the dust collection tube?  I mean I was kind of planning on just cutting out a hole in the laminated wood thats mounted on the back of the bench and run the hose up through between the wall studs but not too sure.

 

 

That wouldn't work for me.  It looks like my toes would be up against the board and I would be uncomfortable.
