March 4, 20224 yr comment_285343 I need to frame in a small storage closet in the shop and spent a little time yesterday laying out the basic approach. This morning I went to Lowes to pick up some 2x stock, thinking it had come down in price from the pandemic. Nope, at least not much. 2x4x8' were still over $9, I seem to think they were in the $4 range pre-pandemic. Guess this will be something on hold for a while yet. Report
March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post comment_285353 Right after I got married we decided we wanted a cabin at a lake somewhere so I started watched the adds before I started buying lumber. Its hard to believe now that 8' 2x4's was regular priced at 13 cents and occasionally they went down to 9 cents each. And I really believe they didn't warp as bad and as quickly as they do now. This was in 1962. Sheetrock was less than a dollar for 1/2? 4x8. But I also think my earnings was on the low side of nothing. Report

March 4, 20224 yr Popular Post comment_285355 Then about 10 or 15 years later we gave that 2 story cabin to our neighbors across the street. He was a nice guy who brought his road building crew out to the 4 acres we were fixing to build a go-cart track and a mini golf course on and up rooted the mesquite trees and leveled it all nice and flat so I could get to work building things. I ask wife how much he charged us for all that work and she said nada so a few months after that I said go give that cabin to them cause we never left that amusement thingy for eight years at 7 days a week....tied down because we were actually having fun making money! Made little sense. Menards current sale circular has a 2x4x8 treated at $9.43 less 11% rebate brings one to $8.39. I bought several from Menards just prior to July 2020 for under $3 each. Report
March 8, 20224 yr Popular Post comment_285680 Had to stop at HD for a couple items while in town today. 2x4x92-5/8" (precut stud), $7.85; assume they were for dome houses based on curvature? 4x8x 23/32" OSB sub floor, $78+change per sheet; 4x8x ~7/16" sheathing, almost $45 sheet. Didn't look at much else; all this was on end aisle on path to restroom Report
