  1. Guy that bought a couple Polish Eagles last year wanted to know i could make a custom plaque for one of his customers. He sent me a pic and picked up the finished product tonite. 24" in diameter round. Must have liked it - I even got a pretty good tip - which is unusual in this business.
  2. Recently, I decided to check into shellac as a finish. I watched a few YouTube videos to get an idea of the process, and, after a quick Amazon search and purchase, a variety pack was on the way. I then mixed up a two pound cut of the blonde flakes and looked about for a project. As luck would have it, the parts for my Benjamin 392PA air rifle arrived and after changing the valve and some o-rings, I decided to refinish it as well. So, I removes the stock and began to sand......and sand.........and sand. Progressed from 80 grit to 120 grit and finally liked the results. A big difference from the varnished version. During the process of applying eight coats of shellac, I learned quite a few tidbits: 1) Shellac dries quickly, 2) The first coat of shellac raised the grain more than I thought it would. 3) Layer the shellac to get the desired type of finish (matte, shiny, etc.) instead of trying to do one or two thick coats. 4) Paste wax really helps to bring out the shine and should provide a little more protection. The shellac finish feels really good in the hands and gives a warmth to the wood that the varnish just covers up.

  4. Made this today, based on pictures of others i found on the web. there is a commercial one that sells for $509. this was considerably less than that. upper bin is for a pistol, bigger bin is for rifle/shotgun.
  5. Building a backer board for the old rifle to hang somewhere. It seems like this was the first rifle issued to me back in the Civil War?
  6. I'm not really sure if this is the right place to put this thread but it doesn't seem to quite fit anywhere else. (Admins please move as needed) I've been working on this project for the last couple of months and started planning the build in the months before that. It's all finally come together and will be taking her to the range soon. This is a high quality product Made in the USA by Mr. Jim Kibler owner and proprietor of https://kiblerslongrifles.com/. I've attached many photos and would be happy to answer any questions that you may have. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the project and constructive criticism is always welcome. .40
  7. Hey folks, been looking around the web and have not found much, I'd like to build a knock down shooting bench. It has to be small enough to fit in my 2009 Toyota Corolla, and light enough to obviously carry to the shooting area by one person. There a ton of stable solid shooting benches out there but they are big and bulky, and should be left in place after built. Any idea or help is greatly appreciated. I'm sure if I sat down and drew one up, I could come up with something, but if someone already invented the wheel in this one, I'd like to see an example. There are plenty on the market fabricated, but I don't like plastic and aluminum for what I am involved in.
  8. I am making a large drawer to store rifles under a bed. The drawer will about 50" wide and 22"-24" deep. Can someone give me some options on where to find some full extension bottom mount slides that will work. Also, I will be installing at least 3 drawer slides.
  9. History of the Contemporary Longrifle Association In 1980, Robert Weil published his book “Contemporary Longrifle Makers”. This was the first comprehensive and authoritative work on the subject. This book sparked the interest of many collectors. One of the many purchasers of this book was Gordon Barlow of Swoope, Virginia. Through the years, he and several of his collector/builder friends (Earl Lanning, Jud Brennan, Wallace Gusler, Robert Weil, Mark Thomas, Gary Brumfield, Mel Hankla, Ed Louer, Tom Ames and Edmund Davidson, to name a few) discussed the need for a contemporary group to recognize the fine craftsmanship of contemporary muzzleloading firearms and accoutrements made today and the promotion of this period in our country’s history; thus keeping the frontier tradition alive.
