April 1, 20251 yr Popular Post This is a piece of Orange Osage. (Even though it's yellow. Lol) I'm not real sure what the lid is. It doesn't really match the pot in my opinion but it was the only piece I had big enough for a lid. Walnut handle. The burning in the middle happened by accident but it looked good so I did a couple around the rim.

I was applying some natural beeswax so I sped it up to 2000 RPM to help it melt and soak in the wood. I held the cloth just a bit too long and the wax got a bit too hot. It was right on the ridge of the angle transition. It looked good so I did it again on purpose around the rim.

Excellent recovery from the "accident." I really like the look. A very classy looking piece. Glad you're keeping busy in the shop.

Never use a rag on a spinning object on a lathe especially at high speed. The reason : if then rag catches your hand will be wrapped around the object and it is a guranteed hurt. I suggest if you plan on burn lines in the future (I know this was an accident) use a wire with handles , not wrapped around your hand.

It's good to know there are people out there that care about others. I never use complete rags. I cut old t-shirts up into 3-4 inch squares and fold them over.

April 10, 20251 yr Popular Post This is a piece of Orange Osage that was supposed to be a bowl but I turned the bottom too small. It would have been easily tipped over so I turned a Walnut base and turned it into a goblet of sorts. I think some of my best work comes from unintentional mishaps.
April 10, 20251 yr Another great save Donald. A pedestal bowl of sorts; really cool actually. It'll make it easier to scoop out a handful of M&M's.

Those two species really look fantastic together!

May 10, 20251 yr Popular Post I found a maple branch that was sort of a crotch piece that I thought would make a nice live edge bowl. When I cut in half, it was all rotted out in the center. No way I could mount it for a natural edge but I figured I’d try turning it anyway. The one branch was rotted through and left a hole in it, but I thought the rest of it looked pretty cool, so I finished it. It measures just over 10”. Finished it with a rattle can lacquer.
