OFF the lathe and just finished

I had made these some time back and posted them here, but the last one is now finished. My quarter frames for the American Women quarters was missing the 2025 set. I just got them this week and finished putting the last one together. This onehas a beech frame and cherry background, with maple wafers holding the quarters. I really like the wood combo, but this was the first frame I made and the segments probably have the bigger gaps of the 4 I made. But I'm still happy with it, and I intend to try some more segment stuff.

That is gorgeous, Fred! I completely agree about the species combination! Segment joints look good to me, too!

Finished up the ornament for the charity auction organized the Turners Warehouse and sponsored in part by Easy Wood Tools. The proceeds from the auction will go to St. Jude Children's Hospital. The ornament was turned entirely using  EWT products. The hollow center "globe" is approximately 2" in diameter and the entire piece is approximately 6" long. Made from maple, cherry, walnut and oak. Finished with wipe on poly.

I understand the auction will be held through Ebay and details will be announced on November 14

Ornaments for the grand children. Tenth year

My first serious attempt at finials. I have the technique down OK yet the artistry seems a bit farther away.

First use of Odies Oil.  I will use it on bowls and plates, yet this needs a real shine.

I still consider myself as a newbie wood turner so I’m a little proud of this one. Someone on facebook here wanted to get rid of some pear wood. I went to pick it up, most of the wood is rotted on the inside but this branch was solid. It’s about 10 1/2” x 7ish x 3 1/2”, finished with matte lacquer. One thing it taught me was I need to work on keeping my hand, arms etc BEHIND the tool rest 😂.

Well that mystery wood I thought was mulberry, I now believe is something else. First bowl from the limb. About 6" x 2", turned with EWT products, finished with Yorkshire Grit and Hampshire Sheen.

I'm spit-balling here but any chance it's Sassafras?

Thanks, Aaron!

I suppose it could have been, unfortunately there were no leaves left around the pile of wood to aid in the identification.

Have had some of the globes for these ornaments a while just waiting for finials. Club has been doing ornaments last two open shop meetings and I had to brush up so I could mentor . The blue one is solid Bradford Pear. Spaulted ones pecan. Finials are Indian rosewood, red heart, crepe Myrtle.
