Board on the right got 2 treatments of tannic acid and ferric nitrate, the one on the left got  1 each. Both were knocked back with a quick swipe of 150 to see whats up. I think the left board was actually still damp when I blushed it and some off green seeped through in the color in a spot or 2. It went back to the staining bench tonight and got another coat of each. Will see how we look next session.

This one was ferric acetate followed by peroxide.  The thing I really like about this method is that it's color fast - not going to fade with exposure to sunlight like some dyes can.

I looked around but I can't find a picture of the one I did with the nitrate solution.

Some extra's over in the corner from the last batch:

And some of the finished product, again left over from the last bunch:

Note all the dust on those, I've been slacking off!

I've been trying to post a picture of the scary bit that is usually the hold up when I make these.  The internet is being slow and stupid for me and the uploads seem to continually fail for that pic.  I have an old video of it, I'll put that up instead.  Might have posted it before.

Yep, just the sound of that bit raised goose bumps on me.

Mighty fine looking grips though.

Been working on a bowtie for the barnwood euro. I don't mind the split but don't want it to get worse, also the split is allowing it to twist. I didn't want to mess up the barn wood so this is purely utilitarian and allowing me to practice a little, it's going on the back of the board. Not a super precise fit but the piece is locked in there good, I'll dress up with a glue/wood chip mix around the edges later. Also moving forward with the maple shelf that will go on this piece. BIg winter going on here, inside work only but I can work with that. Kids outa school all week and been doing a buncha winter time eating. A Christmas Story on the shop TV, some history shows afterward,..and even got in the library a little for some ship content.
