Looks like a weekend build, just in time for putting under the tree. Featured Video PBS Terra, is a new channel I found and enjoying a whole lot. This is the first video on the channel that I watched that led me down the rabbit hole dive into other well done documentaries by PBS Terra regarding our earth. This video is only 8 minutes long and well worth the watch. I must admit, I have been ignorant about the American Chestnut, I never really gave this iconic species a thought, sure I've seen wonderful early pieces made of chestnut and I kind of just walked on by, till now. It's a sad story, but there is hope.- 22 replies

Our club had a great meeting this weekend with Jeff Hornung of The Walnut Log doing the demo. He did a Morroco bowl using a Sorby spiraling tool and then Chestnut stains dye and finally liming wax. Some Ideas I had thought about but the Sorby was not in formula til now. It is the blue bowl in center. He had a really cool light . It has magnetic rechargable heads and base is magnetic. It seems to be very versatile and I just ordered one. https://www.thewalnutlog.com/woodworking-store/#!/GloForce-Eye-Light-With-Magnetic-Base/p/162397077/category=41610157

just finished the restaining if all this chestnut after it was reinstalled in clients home. Every piece you see in foyer was nothing but scraps that came out of the house and were remade to fit the new walls that were built including the double door closet. ALL THE WOOD HERE WAS IN PIECES IN THE SHOP. THE CEILING IN DINING ROOM HAS HAND PAINTED MURALS ALL OVER IT. IT'S ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! WE TALKED THEM OUT OF PAINTING IT ALONG WITH PAINTING ALL THE OTHER WOODWORK!!!!! STAIN IS JACOBEAN AND A COAT OF DANISH OIL ON IT. 4 DAYS JUST TO STAIN.

From the album: Another chestnut stairway and a stickler settee
Another staircase in chestnut. movers destroyed the woodwork including putting hole in ceiling. stain is Jacobean with Watco danish oil non gloss over it.4 days of work. Why do I always get the hard jobs? And boss refused to move the one of a kind stickler settee from the foyer.- 2 comments
