Found the slick stick to be interesting. So since two bowls dropped out of experiment what is the good percentage? Thanks Lew

Thanks Lew.  Good post.  Mike Peace's sled caught my eye.  Why didn't I think of that?

Seeing your bowl pieces brought a little tear to my eye.  Hate when that happens.

@lew

That Rikon lathe looked really cool until I looked at the price tag! :JawDrop:

I'm trying to replace a vehicle, and can't afford to spend what that lathe is listed for. :(

I guess somebody had to go and do it! :PullingHair:

Those ornaments of Steve's done got me feeling itchy. :BitingNails:

Wonder if I can pull a few of those off with my "Old School Fool" lathe? :ChinScratch:

@Gerald Thanks! I can't blame the failure of those 2 bowls on the soak process. The one that came apart was my fault. When turning near the inside rim, I got a vibration due to resonance. I was trying clean it up and got a little to thin. The other one I'm not sure what caused the crack. It is along a growth ring and didn't show up until after I had turned to the final thickness. Maybe I didn't let it dry long enough.

@Gunny Thank You!

@HandyDan Thanks! Maybe to one that came apart can become a small shallow bowl for pocket change.

@Jim from Easy Wood Tools Thank You!

@AndrewB Thanks!

@Larry BuskirkThank You! Yeah, that lathe is nice but out of my league. Please post the birdhouses you turn!

@lew,

:ChinScratch:I've been busy watching Steve's YouTube videos, he's posted a lot to digest!

I'll have to do things a bit differently though due to having different style chucks etc.

I'm sure mine won't look near as good, the last time I did any real turning was in Jr. High Wood Shop.

That was a long time ago. :unsure:

Reminded me of my Dad talking about last time he used a lathe. High School shop class. :D
